KING CRIMSON.........THE GREAT DECEIVER

Posted 4 months ago

...This song, from King Crimson's early mid-period phase, is as frenzied as a plitical party tryin to rush through legislation that no one has read.

........By This Time Robert Fripp had it all figured out.....his frenzied short circuit guitar buzz would soon morph into Frippatronics....But with each successive release we became more convinced we'd heard it all before

60 % of Americans believe that Health Care Reform will help someone other than themselves.

.........President NOT BUSH says that healthcare is a basic right. As a scholar of the constitution he must know thats bullshit. We are the People....Our Rights come from our creator! Period! We do not get a single "right" from government. Period. Indeed we established a government to protect these rights. We vested in government certain rights & responsibilies. So tell me please Mr President....from whence does this "right to healthcare" arise? And while we're on the subject.....

......Lets say, for the sake of absurdity that our President, NOT BUSH, is right & there was a constitutional right to healthcare. OK? Now, what on earth is the government doin rationing out rights? For make no mistake at all....government run healthcare will lead to rationing of resources....using all the same rationale as The Third Reich....with perhaps a less ruthless implementation....at first(?). Which of our rights will next come under the auspices of a national review board? One shudders to think.

THey scramble to find restorative solutions to the economic conundrum they themselves created, and one way they can frame their ideas is to push it as "rights." What he means to say is "it's our right to not have to suffer because of our bumblings, err... our predecessor's bumblings."

People will also get sick much more frequently than the government probably realizes, thereby creating more pressure on any strategy to provide "free" health care. Ours is free here in the frozen North, but perhaps not for long the way the deficit continues to grow.

Your health system sounds nealy as stuffed as ours. We have a free public health system that is so bloated and ungainly that it is next to useless-A friend passed away 3 weeks ago from pneumonia while he waited 6 hours for an ambulance transfer from one hospital to another. Another had to go to the media to have a life saving brain operation. The fact that people may die seems irrelevant

THere is, unfortunately, in the higher halls of power, a less than concerned attitude towards life and death. Trends set policy, and the trend needed to change health care is one in which sacrifices will be made in the form of human lives.

while my teeth could use some free healthcare I resent the notion that the government that requires that I keep my seatbelt buckled, my cigarette extinguished, and my drunk ass off the road, could also require me to go in for yearly checkups. I think everyone has a right to be as unhealthy as they want! Fuck healthcare untill I'm dieing then bring that shit on man!

From this side of the Atlantic, I am astonished to learn that there exists a purportedly civilised democracy in which health care is not regarded as the responsibility of the state, and something to which every citizen is entitled.

I thought that the era when people suffered and died because they couldn't afford to see a doctor had been swept away generations ago. I would far rather live in a state where the Health Service is funded by direct taxation than one where it is provided through insurance, with all the exclusions and profiteering that entails, which is why I shall never visit the USA.

.....A rare occurence in the USA.  For now.  Far more people die waiting to be cared for in countries where healthcare is a state's responsibilty.

Nice one, Jeff. I didn't realize until I played the track how appropriate the lyrics were to your post subject.

Gave up cigarettes, still eat ice cream at least once/twice per week. Although I wouldn't enjoy a regular diet of King Crimson, this was a nice diversion.

The soda tax is what worries me. I drink the stuff by the case.

Nice post, dmdm. I like the cartoon.

dermahrk- forget the tax on soda, best to quit it because that stuff is ruthless to your body.

And the only thing worse than soda is DIET soda! All those chemicals- nasty, nasty stuff!

Go for a little red wine instead- there are several good bottles for about $10 and some great ones for $15-$20. And the resveritrol in it is actually very good for you!

We all pay for the healthcare of our Military, our senior citizens, our poor (via Medicaid) and our politicians... why not the rest of us? It's amazing that the insurance industry has paid lobbyists hundreds of millions of dollars, dating back to the Clinton Administration, to stop health care reform when bloggers will do the work for them for free.

Hah- but remember that they're in the business of insurance- that's why they spend the $ on the lobbyists- their own extra protection.

So I guess they, like us, have gotten used to paying too much for insurance.

That's the point, they're protecting themselves (and the record profits that we've generated for them via higher premiums). But why are bloggers doing the dirty work for the insurance companies? Do they like paying more? Don't forget... we're already paying for the uninsured... in the form of higher premiums. Call it what it is... a hidden-tax. Because, health care for the uninsured comes out of all our pockets.
