On a cold sunday morning, First cup o'joe in hand I turn on the itunes and hit shuffle; Ah, the Dave Brubeck Quartet with a sweet little wake-up call.Dave Brubeck, piano player extraordinaire, was a versatile, inventive player who explored the world of jazz and extended it's bounderies and added to it's vocabulary. From the 'boppers' to the smooth jazz set, everyone who came to the piano subsequently built on aspects of Brubeck's style. This charming little track finds D. B. & his Quartet working magic with a much beloved Disney tune.

  1. Bartleby says How timely! I was re-listening to "Take Five" and was just marvelled at all the compositions which made it through the mainstream as pop tunes. - Excellent cut for a Sunday. Cheers, DMDM.

  2. FastRMacR says NICE CUT! Dave brought such inventive syncopation and a world rhythms to the scene. A beautiful man who's still playing. I saw him years ago and am so grateful. I wish I could have seen Paul Desmond - he sounds like the finest, driest martini. Thanks!

  3. deadmandeadman says To me, Brubeck is almost the Rosetta Stone of the piano. His effortless mastery of so many styles is jaw-dropping. One hears echoes of Joplin, Chopin, & The Professor himself. He's _always_ exhibited an impish curiousity and a gentle wit in his playing. Would that my library was more extensive, alas.
