WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

A DARK HORSE CAN LEAD YOU TO WATER, BUT....

Posted about 1 year ago
Another track from Jools Hollands Big Band Rhythm & Blues cd, and as I mentioned previously, the last track recorded and _completed_ by George Harrson before his death.A very fine cd for anyone who loves good music played well. An impressive array of guests get to strut their stuff in a project that IMHO is two cuts above the usual result of such concepts.

  2. FastRMacR says That's the stuff right there! Wow. I've been lax on my RAVE Jools "Later" recordings (hard to keep up). I had no idea the connection between these two. Fascinating - did George have video with this gig? "Brainwashed" has become quite a favorite here - this a rare gem to those last moments. GREAT track! We miss the Dark Horse immensely - such great waters he lead us to - good, clear water to drink. Thanks for this post!

  3. deadmandeadman says FastRmacR, I don't know of any vid to this, but you're right its a great track. George cared **So** much! His lyrics may strike some as....I don't know, _idealistic_ ?, but I guess that's to be the fate of any who try to lighten the world. He _did_ tend to over-produce his later works, sometimes burying a great song (Let It Roll), but this track is just right, IMHO.

  4. Bartleby says Jools + George = exquisite grooves. My ears are still recovering from the wave of ecstasy this caused them. As you said DMDM, just the right production with all the instruments sounding distinctly in unison. Just superb. Thank you, Sir.

I picked it up as an import when it was first released sometime around George's passing. It has since then been available from Rhino. It is an excellent album from beginning to end.

  7. FastRMacR says "Fools Illusions Everywhere" ... "Eyes That Shine Full Of Inner Light, Let It Roll Unto The Night" bliss "Let It Roll" is a great Phil Spectorized 1970, early work at any rate ... no story is truly ever complete .. it's just put down for a time. I brought this tune with me to dinner yesterday. My buddy quickly noted too it was a song that was co-written with George's son, Dhani.

  8. deadmandeadman says FastRmacR, your friend was full o'shit. The song predates Dhani by 15 yrs _at least_

  9. FastRMacR says Spout junk and offer no source - sure... Collaborators - especially near the end. I'm not gonna argue semantics. That song was perhaps scribbled down 15 (or more) years prior (I want proof now). That song would not have seen the air of any studio time were it not for Dhani (and Jeff Lynne). Short of asking him directly about the lyrics - I know I see credible sources showing song credit © George Harrison & Dhani Harrison /Umlaut Corporation. Now that I look at the liner notes of my "Concert For George" DVD - it sure is credited that way. The performance brings out Jools Holland, Sam Brown, and Jim Capaldi. Look into Dhani a bit more you might possibly accept that he added a line or two with his Dad when the song was put down seriously. BTW - who does the guitar on this track (I ask knowing it's EC)? George was only strong enough to do the vocals - quite well considering. (listen to this 18 minutes) hear at 6:10 specifically... http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=848887 http://beatlesnumber9.com/dhani.html ..."Drink!"

  10. deadmandeadman says If I had flesh my face would be red. As it is the ghost of electricity howls in my facebones. I understood you to to say "Let It Roll" was co-written by Dhani. On rereading the comment, I see my (rather dumb) error. Mea Culpa mi amigo!

  11. FastRMacR says < whew > Mine too (I just said 'brought this tune' after waxing about Let It Roll) - my bad. I think we both need to go roll one ;)
