WAKE UP! I WANNA BE YOUR DOG

This early track from Sonic Youth finds Kim Gordon skating that razor's edge where the music is barely controled chaos blossoming. This is the only Stooge's Cover that I like better than the original. This is razor blades sliding along wrists, cherry bombs in mailboxes.

  3. emit says Ah, boy, did they bring the most depraved rock track ever back to life! Nice choice here. They actually did this track live quite often (on a couple of occasions, in 1987 in London and in 1993 in Australia, with Iggy Pop himself). On the 1989 tour, they would come out with the supporting band, á la "We Are The World". The funniest take I recall was the one on the Late Show, with the house band joining in with a full orchestra, including sax, those horrible Casio guitar-like MIDI keyboards, and what have you... But on this particular record, it's just the way the track comes on suddenly, after the anxious hiatus of Freezer Burn - it just gets me every time, even though it's just a fragment.

  4. deadmandeadman says I saw them at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel in beautiful downtown Providence shortly after Steve Shelly settled in for good. They did a medly/collision of 'dog' and Beat On The Brat. Friggin' awesome! Sound levels of molten glass, Kim barely comprehensible, Thurston & Lee lost in the thrash, god it was incredible.
