ANUS OF URANUS....................KLAATU

Ok.......to review. Klaatu, the band, sky rocketed to the very edge of fame in 1976 based on rumors that one or more, perhaps even four, Beatles were involved. These rumors were started by a speculative piece written by a mischevious music critic in the employ of Rhode Island's own Providence Journal. ("projo" to some.. "The Urinal" to others). For some reason, (slow news cycle?) the story caught fire and the rest is......lost in obscurity. They were briefly all over the airwaves until the backlash commenced.

Never thought that they were The Beatles when the album came out but those first four albums became a staple on my stereo. Great songs, wonderful musicianship and awesome production.
It took me a year to find their fifth album after it was released but it was worth it.
Check out the recent release from Bullseye titled "Sun Set: 1973-1981".

I agree with you oh time travelling friend(s). Klaatu's strengths were myriad. As you say Great songs , fantastic production. Virtuoso musicianship...we're talkin' the whole shebang here. Point of fact they may have been too talented for their own good. From track to track (and of course album to album) they often sounded like entirely different bands, you know? Who would associate Sir Rugglesby & Politzania with the same band?
I do not have their third on CD but I sure wish I did.
Geez, a guy can't take a few days off without someone else posting his ideas. This is the second post I've reviewed since I got back from a trip to Toronto that I had mentally decided I would post. I heard the story on a radio show and it reminded me of the band.
Klaatu was a Toronto based band who relished the false rumor. How do I know? I lived with a bunch of folks in a huge house, and the parties included such notables as Nash the Slash, and members of Klaatu. (or so I was told. It was hard to really say for sure, but there definitely were lots of people there from the Toronto music scene.)
I have two scratchy old vinyls by Klaatu, when I was a kid I remember seeing posters up that read "who is Klaatu" great marketing for the time and the music is still pretty cool. Thanks for the reminder
