TALK ABOUT YOUR TROUBLES (Or : "Where in hell did you get THAT?) (gettin' the jump on Sunday covers.)

1964 was not a good year to release an album of jaw-dropping guitar playing. As the world tuned to mop-topped teeny bops, Sandy Bull quietly dropped this A-bomb. Long before anyone spoke of "World Music" This maestro was weaving intricate tapestries of sounds, blending middle eastern tonalities and rhythyms with the familiar structures of folk and jazz. My older brother and his crowd, WAY too serious for rocknroll, would sit for hours listening to Sandy Bull, trying to emulate his Style.

  4. deadmandeadman says Cody B, I'm flattered. I sure hope a window opens for you. His is a world of music that pulses with the bloodflow diverse styles. No John Fahey, his influences are far more subtley woven into familiar realities vaguely recalled.

  7. dermahrk says I dunno. Sounds poorly recorded, you can talk about "alternative scales" but I swear he's hitting bad notes some of the time and, geez Louise, a 10-minute instrumental based on a Chuck Berry tune? I bailed after 3 minutes meself. Back to Doug Kershaw.....
