WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

TURN OFF YOUR MIND, RELAX AND FLOAT DOWNSTREAM

Posted over 2 years ago
So I'm in the fourth day of a vicious flu but I think I'm finally winning. But the down time has been enlightening in that I've gone diggin' around and finding little things here and there that I'd almost forgotten I had. (hence the bootleg vinyl post). I've been listening to a lot of music as that's the only thing that brings satisfaction.I'm tellin' you, when the deadman can hardly read his sports pages and editorials you know he's sick. (See?< how often have you seen me refer to myself in the third person? The flu man, messes with your head.)So this is from a bootleg cd from years ago, (pre-Anthology).Enjoy?Can you spot the differences? Revolver is almost a different album in mono.

  1. Marigold says I can not spot the differences as I am just a Beatles hack. There is no reason whatsoever I had to wait till I was 35 to realize what a big Beatles fan I am. The Third person is sick? That is not good. It is good to hear he is getting better. Tell him get well.

  3. scotfree says Beatles hack? I like that. Me too. If I listen to this once more, my third eye may open. Tell the deadman to lay of the theraflu/ vodka spritzers.

  4. dermahrk says It sounds vaguely different, but without the stereo track to compare to, hard to tell...you could post that as well (hint, hint...) As you probably know, the Beatles and Martin spent all of their energy on the mono mixes, with the stereo mixes done off-the-cuff and quickly, so I would not be surprised if the mono mixes sounded better.

  8. marknavl says Hey DM...hope you're feelin' better today. I wish I could listen to your Tomorrow Never Knows WHILE I was typing this but it shuts off. I love this song. Mono, stereo, or oreo, whatever. It rules. Anyway hope you're better in time for the weekend.

  10. B42 says The B man wishes the J man a speedy recovery. I had something last month that lasted like two weeks, it was torture. I blame it all on the Capitalist Industrial Complex as I do everything wrong with the world today...

  12. FastRMacR says Hey, that references another great tune by them...;) Do hope you're feeling better (cuz that stuff is icky man) OK - so I've listened to my stereo ver. -the mono here has a definite difference in the sound of the guitar solo (more reverb?). Also the 'loop' effects are slightly different in their timbre/clearer and brighter in places - and instead of occupying the left/right speakers while going in or out..it simply fades ... in and out. Dermahrk said it - it's the production difference - they went through a whole lot more trouble mixing the monos than the stereos. Like you said - almost a different album. I feel this way about the white album - now _that_ shows some real differences! Thanks for the post, deadmandeadman. Be well.

  13. deadmandeadman says Thank you FastRMacR. Your ear is good. Also, unlike the stereo mix, this mix has the "loop" actually fading all the way out for fairly long periods. Close inspection reveals they canniballized the mono loops and in places overdubbed the overdubs for the stereo mix. So its getting onto Saturday evening and I'm feeling much better, thank you all again for your concern.

  14. ivylander says Shit, how did I miss one of your posts? Guess it's a little late for the get-well wishes....Can't hear the differences between this and the one I've got in iTunes already, but that's not exactly the audiophile version, y'know.....
