Greg Abate,( a-bot-tay), is little Rhodey's current contribution to the jazz scene. His reputation in jazz circles is large and growing. A serious student of the genre, his encylopedic knowledge of the music is almost as impressive as his body of work. I have spoken with him on occasion, and he's a very lively, engaging conversationalist. But when he picks up that sax the world melts away. His warm smooth tones and imaginative changes, his immaculate phrasing and impeccable timing insinuate themselves into your body before they reach your mind. For me, Greg occupies that rare air between the house of smooth and the red hot stuff that leaves one breathless and begging for more. He opened a window for me into The Yardbird's work, which had always seemed so foreign. He lead me on the path and brought me there, where the cascading notes and ambiguous rhythms suddenly all made beautiful, wonderful, awesome sense. You can visit his home page here.http://www.gregabate.com/The track I'm playing here tonight, as I warm up for football, is from a Live cd Greg recorded at Chan's House Of Jazzthe line-up is:Greg Abate: SaxRichie Cole: Alto SaxChris Neville: PianoPaul Del Nero: BassArtie Cabral: DrumsSo enjoyhttp://www.chanseggrollsandjazz.com/
