WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

GOOD KARMA/ The turtle/TURTLE

Posted over 2 years ago
Yesterday the mrs an'I decided to hike around some of the cross-country ski trails around here. They are carved out for the forrests around here by the state through the backwoods. There are cisterns scattered about which are usually filled with water and serve to provide back-up water supplies should there ever be forrest fires. These little man made ponds and pondlets become dynamic little eccosystems in themselves. Frogs, salamanders, snakes and turles thrive. But its been a very dry summer so farand most of the little resevoirs were completely dried up. No doubt there were amphibians in their curious state os suspended animation buried in the dried muck. But we found one cistern deep in the woods that had vertical stone walls and one small patch of funky waterlog'd muck that was quickly drying. And right in the middle a small turtle, obviously not in the best place. She could not climb out the stone walls and its too late to find safety in the muck, she was stuck.A beautiful little eastern painted turtle, very common around here. Ordinarily, based on her size I'd say she was two to four years old, but because the of extensive scarring and (healed) damage to her carapace, I'd have to say three to five years. In the spirit world TURTLE is almost omnipotent. Wise, compassionate and helpful, but like other entities, his aid is often disguised as coincidence. So we took the little turtle with us on our hike until we came to the same pond pictured in the pancake post, and there we let her go.This was our last sight of the little girl as she swam off in search of her new life.Oh and by the way, The Turtles were a very talented american band that never really got the long term respect they deserve. You should check them out.

  3. Cinful says That was very cool of you two ... helping out the little gal :) You obviously picked a nice time to walk ~ all of the treees and plants look so pretty! I had to laugh at dermahrk's remark on the nail biting ... I have to admit, that was the first thing I noticed when I looked at the picture (probably because my son is a chewer too).
