WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

Mat Kearney Pseudo Review

Posted over 2 years ago
A couple weeks ago I went to a local event called "JB and Sandy's Birthday Bash" at Carlos and Charlie's out on Lake Travis. The third band to play was introduced as "Columbia Recording Artist Mat Kearney." Now, at the time, I had no idea who this person was or what type of music he sang.Initially Rushel and I thought that he was not very good. However, throughout the set, we were impressed by his sound - it was very different from other "singer/songwriter" types and his band was very good. There were some amusing moments, such as when he started talking to the crowd, and someone started heckling him about Stevie Ray Vaughn or when he referred to the large rocks near the stage as "The Coliseum." Overall a very good set! I've since purchased his record and listen to it quite a bit - one of the most different albums I've purchased in a long time. Here's an example of his style.

  1. Vane says Reminds me of Chris Martin's (Coldplay) vocal quality and could be mistaken for Martin...it's a very good track.

  2. deadflowers says I think so too Vane, to a certain extent. His highs do not go as high though...slightly lower. There's another song that I should post. Or check out "Undeniable" on his MySpace page.
