Army of AnyoneWow! Awesome! Spectacular! In-the-makings super-group doing the "get in touch with the fans" thing!! Playing a SRO crowd of about 200-300 people! yeah! whoa!!What a fan-friggin-tastic way to start off the 2007 concert season!!Last night was the *first stop* of the +SnoCore+ tour headlining *Army of Anyone*. And, in case you can't tell, the concert (to steal a phrase) "ripped my face off"!!!OK, first of all lemme say that the night started with a meet & greet with the band before the show. Yeah buddy! We (about a dozen of us) were hanging out by a door and then it opened to a large empty warehouse kinda room with a coupla folding tables and chairs. And, of course, the band was just standing there, and the place was COLD; that area wasn't heated. But in no short time the conversation warmed things up quite a bit. I must say that these guys are just WAY TOO COOL! No, I mean it. I couldn't believe how approachable and talkative they were.Of course, since this was the first night I'm sure they had a lot of nervous energy. In any case, it was really kewl meeting the entire band.+Richard Patrick of Filter+ was very funny! I was wearing a tshirt from the first tour and said I couldn't figure out what it was, either a dragon or a snake or something... He pretended like they were all smokin a joint while coming up with a weird tshirt idea. Then when I got Patrick to sign my poster of them, he signed on top of his name, but couldn't see it well. I asked for him to sign below in the dark area... He did that, then said "Lemme draw this line up here to show that I'm connected, then this line to complete the circle to show this is my signature... Then these here and this!"*When he was done, he had drawn a smiley face over himself! Too funny! If you look closely, you can see it.*
I also talked to +Dean DeLeo (STP lead guitar)+ who was totally down to Earth and laid back and just real easy to talk to. I asked a few questions, like when the next album will be out. :o) I later saw him out in the lobby on his cell phone, people walking by, nobody recognizing him... We gave each other a head nod.I was right up front during the concert leaning over the railing and at several times got his attention after a song "DEAN! DEAN!" He seemed like he was in his own world on stage and kinda woke up to us after he figured we knew who he was. :o) After the last song he leaned over and personally handed me a pick, didn't toss it but handed it to me! Woohoo!! I feel like a kid!
I didn't really get a chance to talk to +Robert DeLeo (STP bass)+, but did a bit with +Ray Luzier (drums)+ and he was just all smiles and totally psyched. Very, very nice. Got him to sign my shirt and he was complaining how he always got the dried out markers...*+THE CONCERT+* itself was fantastic. About 15 songs starting off with Father FIgure with about 4 STP (+Vasoline, Big Bang Baby+) and and about 4 Filter (+Take A Picture, Welcome to the Fold+ - *THIS song was a face ripper*) and ending with the hit *Goodbye*. They played for 1.5 hours and "ripped my face off". I loved it! My ears were ringing all day today. They were *+very tight+* (whadya want?! they're brothers), to the point and just like the albums. Only louder and live! Every time I looked at the drummer, Ray, he was just all over the drums! I had no idea he was playing so hard in the songs.+*In fact, I am so lucky cause they are playing Austin tomorrow night!!!*+Guess where I'll be tomorrow night?! Yep, in Austin, in another SMALL venue living it up with Army of Anyone! I hope to sneak into the meet & greet, we'll see...A sad note: I bought a camera specifically for the 2007 concert season and it arrived DOA from buy.com!!! So, I had to use my *+CRAPPY+* camera, so please forgive the pictures. I promise better pictures from Austin's show!!!GO SEE AOA when they play your town!! It is great, they are reaching out to us and wanna be our best buddies! :oPhttp://www.armyofanyone.com*+TOUR DATES+*Sat, Jan. 20 - Austin, TX - La Zona RosaSun, Jan. 21 - Fort Worth, TX - Ridglea TheaterTue, Jan. 23 - Baton Rouge, LA - Varsity TheatreThurs, Jan. 25 - Knoxville, TN - Blue Cat'sFri, Jan. 26 - Greensboro, NC - N ClubSat, Jan. 27 - N.
