the new OutKast, "Idlewild"

Posted almost 6 years ago
What can I say about the new OutKast album. Without a doubt, OutKast is the single most important artist of our time, right up there with Radiohead and perhaps System of a Down. Basically everything from ATLiens through Speakerboxxx/The Love Below is classic material in not only hip hop, but popular music in general. Idlewild is no exception, but not quite on the level of their absolute best material(Aquemini and Stankonia). Some classic tracks here, including "Morris Brown", "Hollywood Divorce", "PJ and Rooster", and the short but gorgeous "Dyin' To Live".People...there is simply no one better than OutKast right now!

  1. Spencer Owen says Yeah. I have to listen to it again. I wasn't incredibly impressed, but I probably did not give it a fair shot; it's probably easy to take them for granted. I would like to give these guys credit whenever possible. They are hard-working and so creative. I did not expect Snoop Dogg to show up on "Hollywood Divorce," but when he did, I was certainly pleased about it.

  2. patthinker says I'd calm down with all the 'most important artist of all time' talk. With any musician.

  3. ddonnell says hey I don't think they're the most important artist of ALL time of course. But they're definitely one of the only bands out there that constantly pushes boundaries, while still maintaining a following the size of other successful, but less adventurous, artists out right now. there's something to be said for that...
