WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

The Crane Wife

Posted over 3 years ago
Pitchfork.com reported that Decemberists' latest album, "The Crane Wife" is unarguabley their best work to date. While Crane Wife is a good album, and better than like 80% of everything else out there, I'm not sure I really agree with Pitchfork on this one. I was a little disappointed with Crane Wife. I don't know if it was the major label debut or what. Maybe it'll grow on me. Thoughts?

  1. dangercat says (gasp) you disagree with the almighty 'fork? Seriously dude, just give yourself props for making up your own mind. I think Pfork's influence needs checking. That's why we heart the MOG.

  3. nightowl13 says Well, I think some of their best songs ever are on Crane Wife but there are other tracks where I listened to them and I thought, "wow, what is this?" I like that they are trying new things but I didn't find Crane Wife to be consistently good like their older stuff. I hate Pitchfork so much. Their review of Jet's new album is good though.

  5. Puffmagic says Every now and then I agree with Pitchfork and this is one of those times. I do think Crane Wife is their best so far, but I also thought Transatlanticism and Plans were Death Cab's best. I don't know why but I dig the polished sound with certain bands. I don't think there's anything wrong with using a little studio magic from time to time, but it only works with some. Guided by Voices was much better when they were recording on whatever crappy 4 track they used early on.

  6. sommer face says A lot of the fans are saying that. I never really listened to any of The Decemberists' CDs before I got The Crane Wife. I like it alot. I picked up Picaresque recently but haven't had the time to listen it. I don't like pitchfork.com.

  7. that1guy says I love the unpolished sound of The Decemberists older music. Even though I do like Crane Wife's clean sound, it's not what I've come to like about them. Their older music use to trick me into thinking that I lived in a much more simple time. I don't think they will ever get any better than Picaresque.
