Tartufi - If We Had Daggers They Would Fly

Posted about 1 year ago
Tartufi is a great and very interesting band from the grand & fancy city of San Francisco. And they're friends of mine; I won't deny it. They're lovely people who work their asses off in their band & make nearly no money in return. They tour the nation, they make great records with interesting folk (such as Tim from the Fucking Champs), & they make these amazing, massive albums that really have to be heard from start to finish to be completely comprehended.

But I'm posting only one tiny song from their album. Because I'm like that.

They are two people: Lynne Angel and Brian Gorman. They use loops and glockespiels and megaphones and things and they do everything you hear in this recording live. It is 100% done all the way through. They don't eff around with overdubbing parts so they can get the song recorded more easily. They are crazy. And they were voted the "best indie band of 2007" by the SF Bay Guardian readers. And they deserve it; they are incredible. And impractical.

And they're planning an album that's a full song start to finish - 45 minutes, 1 song. I asked Brian the other day - like "Thick as a Brick" by Jethro Tull? He said no. So, no - not like that. In case you were wondering.

Actually, considering how inaccessible their music SHOULD be, it's surprisingly easy to listen to. Cool melodies, rocking movement - it's really, really worthwhile, folks.
