WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

John Martyn

Go over to ciaran's place and read what he says about John Martyn. Follow the YouTube link to hear May You Never from 1973, and then come back here and listen to one of my favourites, Sweet Little Mystery, from a 1987 performance accompanied by Danny Thompson as usual. No more words necessary.

  1. ciaran says That's rather lovely. And you say that Phil Collins had a hand in it?!

  2. david terrar says Hi ciaran, Yes. Phil played drums, sang background and produced Grace and Danger, and the following album. The song, like most on Grace and Danger, is about the breakup of his marriage to Beverly.

  3. ciaran says Well, I guess that I will have to overcome my prejudice and see what magic the little bald chap knocked up....

  4. fairportfan says That reminds me - is Danny T still with us? What's he doing these days? I know that his son organised a grouip singing of *Danny Boy* by the crowd at the '97 Cropredy Festival (of which Danny was the traditional MC) to cheer Danny up in hospital after a heart attack, but i think i've seen him with Richard Thompson since then. Had a nice chat with him the one time i got close enough, on Festival Tours' Thames music/dinner cruise in '92.
