MOG MOG

WHERE E=MC HAMMER

Artist:
Album: TBA solo release
Track: Baby, All Those Girls Meant Nothing To Me

Originally It was titled "All those whores meant nothing to me". but kristin hott refused to sing the backing vocals that way. And probably was a good idea to change it. a little off putting to some people i suppose.

Well yes, this is the second in the series of internet only solo song/videos.

Like 4 months ago i suggested i was gonna release these one a month. i seriously underestimated my ability to film and edit video while barnstorming the US and europe with cracker.

The story with this song is there is no story. there are some personal touches but it was really just something i started singing to some music Sal Maida and i were playing.

I actually shot a bunch of cool HD footage at my GF's fathers house. It's this 7 acre spread on a hill in the middle of buckhead atlanta. if it were fixed up all of "hotlanta' would be shooting their videos there. but it ain't. and that's what makes the place cool. a real 60's piece of modernist architecture in a state of antebellum decay. sort of a 10 years past the mid life crisis feel. the corvette used to belong to tammy wynette. cool huh?

anyway the camera decided to die. and stupidly i had it in some proprietary hd mode, and i couldn't find a deck or camera to transfer the stuff. meanwhile WEQX albany and Y-rock/WXPN philly have started playing this song. so i cut this together in a couple days using only the stills, and some additional footage i did with the built in Isight on my macbook.

i'll probably add the HD footage when i get my camera back but for right now i think this works.

This is really good David, the song is really good, the video is really good.

I'm not sure if you have posted other songs to mog or youtube, but I am off to look when I finish typing.

It feels really good to hear your voice on a new song, sounds like you, but new. I got in a fight with my brother about the pedagogy of a key lime pie tape in 1993, then we both bought cds, we worked it out.

I'm on my fifth listen to the new song now. see you in oregon hill?

Great video, David. Loved the writing on the dust of the corvette. Wish I could say I agreed with the sentiment of the song....but then I'm a woman. Wouldn't change anything about the video. Bravo...Birthday wishes around the corner. See you at the Campout.

Nice work! Especially liked the words appearing on the car screen and the line "all those spanish myspace girls" :) It's great as ever to see the works in progress on your songs.

Remarkably it's only a month until I turn up in San Francisco for a week and then come and see Camper Van Beethoven - which will be a chanage after all these years of you guys having to come over here and play for me.

What OC woman said. Good as an artistic side, not so good for domestic harmony, if true. Loved the still (like) animation you weaved in with the rose, car initials and mirror. The effect works nicely. And you're right about the vibe of the location. I'd expect to see those types of structures in LA, not in Atlanta. I guess a midlife crisis can strike just about anywhere;)

Very nice David, the vid is great, the song is killa! As much as I do like a good creative video, I still feel they detract, in a way, from the song. Being the author and performer and director has its advantages to be sure, but you're still interpreting the song for me. This is a rather picayune caveat but to me music is aural. Whatever colors I have in my mind you show them to me, you know? So yeah, I like the song alot. I like the vid too, but on a more "its here, its gone" level? Does any of this make sense?

Really nice. I can't believe this is HD, the pictures look like super 8. I like the "urbania" aesthetic and the song too.

Hey Dave, I think its awesome! I'm really interested in making films myself so everytime I see vids like this it makes me want to do stuff even more. I was going to post your/Cracker's cover of Led Zeppelin's Good Times Bad Times (one of my faves) with my comment but MOG isnt workin at the moment. Anyhoo, Cheers and Best of Luck on your latest works.

That's a cool song, David.

I often wish there were more hours in the day. Been workng long hours and having trouble finding time for all of my creative stuff too.

See you at campout. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be there this year.

Great song & vid. Think you were better off using 'girls' since 'whores' could very well be interpreted as derogatory.

i agree this song rocks man, but i would like to hear the orignal lyrics also. Well maybe we can be privileged enough to hear this song in concert or perhaps the original version if the mood strikes.

So, um, Dave? A bunch of us in Tallahassee were wondering: Are you still mad at us? Cuz the last time we remember you playing here, you were real ticked off, finished your set, stormed off the stage, ran to your bus and didn't say goodbye. Was it something we said? And if so, is all forgiven? Come back sometime...
