Wow. A lot of comments on my last blog. Let me just follow up on a couple things.First of all i should make it clear, as it isn't totally clear from my last Blog. David Slutes was NOT the promoter on this cruise show. Yes he is a concert promoter, but he was here with his band, he was as unamused as i was at what happened on this cruise. So much happened on that cruise it was hard to explain in detail just exactly what was going on.Second. There were quite a few people who paid to come on this cruise that did not get to see the bands they paid to see. Let me make absolutely clear if i didn't before. They were the people most victimized by this whole fiasco.Third. It really wasn't that horrible for us. Both my bands got to play and we were actually paid about 2/3 of what we were owed.thanks.

  1. EenieMeenieRecords says This whole story was hilarious! My friends, the Pat McGee Band have been doing "The Rock Boat" since its maiden voyage (Sister Hazel and friends put it together I think) and it's been mostly jam bands, singer/songwriters, and acoustic acts. I think it works for their genre because the most you're going to get is a few kids (or band members) drinking too much and throwing up over the side of the boat or someone smoking too much of that wacky stuff and raiding the ship's fridge after hours. That event has always been described as the most fun ever, but they do a few things right: 1 - it's the whole ship, not just part of a much bigger ship 2 - everyone's an equal - the bands don't have "isolated quarters", they have cabins just like everyone else so for the right price, a big fan can have the cabin next to Howie Day or Josh Kelley and possibly have a good shot of sharing a grapefruit breakfast with him 3 - the events are loosely scheduled and the bands have the run of the place - so if the moment strikes two members of PMB and some of Cowboy Mouth and the singer from Vertical Horizon want to hang out by the pool and have a jam session with two fans who also brought their guitars aboard, it's free game... security will most likely help everyone find a seat 4 - the price is HIGH, but with that you can bet the patrons will be "real fans" not just frat boys looking for an excuse to spend spring break in a place other than Cancun.. and for the most part, the fans are girls, "tapers", and other musicians It's a bummer you guys had a lousy experience, but I've heard the ship thing can actually be a pretty decent experience and a unique chance to spend time with your favourite bands. Provided the promoters and organizers have their ducks in a row.

  2. radioted says Oh David, I wish I could have been a fly in the mai-tai! Also wish I'd known you guys played a gig in LA I would have stopped by and said hi... I remember a couple pretty funny gigs from days of yore myself, but what were you thinking getting on a boat? That's like crossing a border with a van full of fireworks! All the best though, look forward to bumping into you one of these days... (npi) Ted T.

  3. lizalake says That promoter guy, Rich sounds like a James Spader character in a bad 80's movie. There are just too many like that in this business but it sounds like you are used to that and know what to expect even when you go against your intuition! Glad it was entirely horrible despite the frustration and I'm sure you gave your fans a great show! Great blogging material!

  4. Chaos Cowboy says BTW, as bad a this gig was, I'm sure happy you had a reason play in LA again. Didn't get to see all of the CVB set, as my GF wasn't feeling well, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Cracker set, and can't wait for the next show. Hope I don't have to wait until the campout, though.
