MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

greets folks,  about 1am here and i'm almost done with my whirlwind tour. tonight i saw lou reed perform berlin at royal albert hall.  was truly stellar.  6 piece band, 12 piece orchestra and 20 plus choral group.  also did satellite of love, rock and roll for encore!!

glastonbury is insane.  it's truly the 900 pound gorilla of festivals.  15 plus stages, each inhabiting it's own world of shops, food, private clubs and art. it's staggering to behold. and the fact that 150,000 brits do it with knee high water proof boots, cause you're walking through such thick mud that there are moments that you worry about getting sucked into the earth, is a testament to their unbridled commitment to music.

so nickel summary:

if hip hop is dead, rock is deader.

my favorite shows were lupe fiasco, santigold, and jay-z.  - all awesome.

glasvegas and MGMT? could not hold my interest.

mark ronson - solid

raconteurs - i've seen them better

leonard cohen - great

verve - really really good

amy winehouse - solid. she's insane but nonetheless, solid.

the rest are a blur

Pixie, don't let Santogold know you're calling her music hip hop, she'll call ya a racist, haha. Check out Sturgell's post here about it(but seriously, if you've heard her entire album, it's not in the least hip hop. )

Glad to hear Santogold put on a great show. I missed her at Coachella since I was just starting to hear about her but hadn't heard anything by her. Goldfrapp was ending at the first part of her set & Aphex Twin immediately after Goldfrapp & I wasn't about to miss either(although Aphex was quite disappointing).

i'm so revved up to go next year! the clips i've seen of various performers have been most excellent!

and "knee high water proof boots" aka "Wellies" makes it sound even more fun, i love jumping in puddles in mine.

I saw you in the crowd at the Jay-Z show! You were about 100 feet back, just to the side of the guy waving the Boy Scout flag, right?

Good to know Santogold was solid. (One of my top ten spons at the moment.) I was trying to see her all weekend but somehow the BBC failed me.

Safe travels home.

I'm jealous. But good to hear, that you have a great time there - which is nearly here. I'm with Indie regarding HipHops future. The two worlds of rapping and electronic music do merge indeed. Never would have thought that until two years ago or so when the first artifacts reached my ears.
