y'all know about wolfgang's vault right? these investors bought all of bill graham's archives including soundboard performances of thousands of shows from the fillmore and warfield

each week, they put up more free shows. i'm loving these two right now:

stevie ray vaughan 1984 - INSANELY SMOKING!!! i love stevie!

http://concerts.wolfgangsvault.com/dt/stevie-ray-vaughan-concert/50683-6807.html

my friend sent me this video, i'm not sure it's funny

you guys have a friend that sends you way too many youtube videos or other links that they find to be funny but too often you check them out in your limited time and feel burned by something that is unfunny? like perhaps their filters are low? he usually sends them to me over IM with a "this is the best" or "this is killer" - here's one i just got from friend. i can't decide whether it's funny or awful.

MOG VIDEO INTERVIEW EXCLUSIVE - THE FIERY FURNACES

moggers,

it comes with great pleasure and honor to share with you these hysterical and awesome interviews with one of my favorite bands. i fell in love with them (brother and sister - for real) deeply when gallowsbird bark came out. a record i still think was one of the best of the last decade. i've since then seen them live too many times to remember. they're a band that never ceases to shock me and keep me on my toes. i also think their swan song is looming out in the near distance.

with these interviews i love em even more. go now!

http://mog.com/mogtv/fieryfurnaces1

and

http://mog.com/mogtv/fieryfurnaces2

should mog allow the formation of private groups?

moggers,

there are clearly pluses and minus. some of you have made friends and would enjoy the option of hanging in closed quarters. the counter is that there is some exclusivity that removes newbies.

thoughts?

public groups?

mog is working on some serious shit

moggers, apologize for being quiet lately. we've been buried in designing, securing deals, raising money (which we've succeeded at), hiring, and more, in order to open up a can of some musical whoop ass on y'all with some major new releases.

we've got a pretty big release in august, and a massive one in the fall that we believe takes mog to web 4.0 levels. that's right. i'm calling out the big 4.0. all beware. : )

also, i hope you guys notice the serious speed, stability improvements. even mog pages are now blazing fast.

word out.

glastonbury and london

greets folks, about 1am here and i'm almost done with my whirlwind tour. tonight i saw lou reed perform berlin at royal albert hall. was truly stellar. 6 piece band, 12 piece orchestra and 20 plus choral group. also did satellite of love, rock and roll for encore!!

glastonbury is insane. it's truly the 900 pound gorilla of festivals. 15 plus stages, each inhabiting it's own world of shops, food, private clubs and art. it's staggering to behold. and the fact that 150,000 brits do it with knee high water proof boots, cause you're walking through such thick mud that there are moments that you worry about getting sucked into the earth, is a testament to their unbridled commitment to music.

so nickel summary:

if hip hop is dead, rock is deader.

my favorite shows were lupe fiasco, santigold, and jay-z. - all awesome.

glasvegas and MGMT? could not hold my interest.

mark ronson - solid

raconteurs - i've seen them better

leonard cohen - great

verve - really really good

amy winehouse - solid. she's insane but nonetheless, solid.

the rest are a blur

I'm here telling you the truth about music and you want to know if I have stock in the fucking radio? You fucking piece of shit. What did I do to deserve that?

we seem to have fixed things for all but a subset of users. it must be some combination of OS with browser or a software conflict that we cannot replicate locally.

for us, the site is the fastest it's ever been. please let us know so we can reach out and figure out how to replicate.

MOG Launched a Host of New Features and Site Enchancements

I wanted to give you a heads up about a slew of new features and enhancements to MOG. It's a big list! Here goes:

1. LYRICS!

MOG now has the official lyrics to millions of songs.

To accomplish this legally was quite a feat, thanks to our partnership with our friends at Gracenote. Unlike 99% of lyrics sites out there, our collection is completely accurate and far more comprehensive. We don’t have the annoying pop-up ads and spy/malware often found on lyrics sites, either. (Unfortunately, due to requirements from the songwriters, copy/pasting functionality is disabled.)

Type in any artist, album, or song into the search window found on all MOG pages. The pages in the search results now have links to the lyrics.

2. New Artist Video Interview Section at MOGtv

Go to the home page and check out our full collection of exclusive artist interviews and private performances in one super-groovy new area. We saved a bunch of new great interviews for this launch!

3. Great New Tools for Posting and Commenting!

Finally, a WYSIWYG editor for posts and comments.

Wider compose window. More room for writing!

Advanced mode for HTML users.

Enhanced media-embedding features.

New Rating System for Posts:

We have moved to a more intuitive star-based ratings system. This will also be the basis for new features we're going to roll out down the road.

New Permalink Page Design (permalink pages are the dedicated individual post pages):

Now wider to support larger-sized uploaded photos.

Cleaner interface

Faster loading.

Areas displaying related content.

Greatly improved comments display.

And more:

New Artist, Album Track Pages: better access to content, faster loading.

Faster Loading MOG Pages: many scalability and performance fixes to greatly improve page speed. We removed all ad banners for speed improvement, too!

New Quick Access Login for Commenters: you don't have to go through registration pages anymore. Now you can sign in instantly at commenting area.

New "related content" display on many pages, surfacing user's posts from the archives that are relevant.

Along with these enhancements come some more standard-sized (that is, larger) ad units here and there. Hope y'all understand.

There’ve been numerous bug fixes pushed as well: lots of login fixes, double-post fixes, and much much more (we’d bore you if we listed the techie 100+ bugs). Nonetheless, if you find any problems, issues, (they’re are always issues when we push big updates like this at the get-go), or just have flattery/complaints, please email support@mog.com so we can process them in an organized fashion. We really want your feedback on this.

These exciting changes are just a small sampling of some much, much bigger features coming down the road later this year. Enjoy!

were you in a rock band that never made it? new web site for ya

My friend David Katznelson along with others, have started a new web site looking to chronicle the sonic history of the American pop band. Some great photos up there already.

It's called "For Those That Tried To Rock"
http://www.triedtorock.blogspot.com/

Their goal "is to capture data about every band to have been formed by teens with that perfect mixture of big dreams and questionable talent in suburban garages, high school music rooms, and college dorms across America. And to preserve them cryogenically with the very dry ice they once merited, for future generations"

Good stuff. Reminds me of a book i have called "Bar Mitzvah Disco" chronicling cheesy yet hysterical bar mitzvahs from the 70's and 80's.

Our man Sturgell did this very sweet interview. Don't know Dengue? You really should.

Groovy beats mixed behind insane cambodian vocals. It's world music that works for me big time.

I love the song in this video:

Yesterday's Outage

I just wanted to drop a post explaining a little about what happened in our outage yesterday.

To be up front and clear -- we had a bad, bad crash. The worst we've seen -- and we've been around the block (web 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, etc.). The team saw some symptoms of some major data integrity issues, and then contacted me. We agreed to take the site down. What initially seemed like an easy fix turned into many hours of full-throttle troubleshooting and disaster recovery.

The good news is that the site is up and running and without issue. We've isolated the cause of the outage and addressed it. The unfortunate part is that in our efforts to get the site up and running as fast as we could, we had to revert to a stable snapshot of our data. That means in the short term, posts that were created in the day-and-a-half leading up to the outage are not on the site. Please understand -- they aren't lost. We have a full record of all posts and comments, we're reconstructing your creative, hard work and we'll be bringing it back on the site just as soon as it's ready.

We're in the midst of using a large part of our recent investment to improve our infrastructure. We've started the process of moving to our new home -- our own, self-managed colocation cabinet instead of the rented/managed cabinet we're currently with. We're adding tens of thousands of dollars of equipment to make sure we have redundant, seamless failovers in case of issues. We're adding new databases, and we've taken this opportunity to add some new processes to our day-to-day operations.

We're working hard to make MOG always there when you want it, and even when you don't. Stick with us, guys. The stuff we're working on is only technology. You're the special sauce that makes MOG what it is. You guys are what makes me excited every morning, afternoon and night to log on and read about and listen to what you're psyched about.

Peace, and thanks for your understanding.

Tom Waits does YouTube Press conference - says he dated your Mom!

No lie. Tom Waits just released this important press conference in what appears to be designed as a video for youtube release, spread virally through the tentacles of the interweb....

On MOG's Recent Investment From Record Labels

If you’ve been paying attention to any of the tech or digital music blogs over the last couple of days, you may have caught wind that MOG has received some funding. You also may have noticed that some of our new investors include a couple of the major labels: Universal Music Group and Sony BMG.

I wanted to reach out and give you my perspective on what this all means to avoid concerns that The Man is going to mess with MOG.

Here’s the deal folks: do not fear. This influx of cash is a good thing across the board. It means we’re going to be able to give you more of what you love about MOG. It means we’re going to be able to roll out some mind-blowing features and services over the coming months. And it means more money for improved stability, speed and overall site performance. (techies: we're moving into our own colo facility with our own dedicated hardware)

Even with the investment, the labels are minority shareholders. That means the MOG overlords (myself included) are in the driver's seat.

We're super psyched here. You should be too.

Peace,

the new stones movie - shine a light

go see shine a light

perhaps you're apprehensive because you think their days are done and it might be boring. HAHAHAHAHAH. that they're just a bunch of old guys playing songs they wrote 20 years ago. i'm here to tell you: EL-WRONG-O. the stones simply tear in up in this movie. it's totally a mind-blowing thing to behold

my take away: the stones in this movie embody "perseverance" and "drive" - about having a fire inside that burns so hard you refuse to let any preconceived notions of what it's supposed to be like to "grow up" take hold. it's also about being pure and true to yourself, all the while engaging in the utmost fun because you live for what you do. to me the stones are not about selling out - sorry. they've got more money than god at this point to do what they do. it's clear from the film that they're out there because they have to be.

i walked out so ridiculously inspired. reminded me why i created and work on mog every day: to help carry that torch of rebellion, authenticity and musical truth, amidst so much friggin' schlock and noise.

the fact that they're still making this racket and giving you this show of shows, the likes of which emulators like aerosmith can't come close, reinforces why they are the greatest rock and roll band that's ever been and probably ever will be. they're a special force on this planet that refuses to dim. i've said it before and i'll say it again: when it comes to "rock and roll", it's the stones, hands down.

if you think they're "past their prime" and that keeps you from seeing this movie, you are truly missing one of the best live concert flicks put to film. especially if you miss it in IMAX RIGHT NOW WHEN YOU HAVE THE CHANCE. i defy you to see it and not say they put bands 1/4 of their age to complete shame.

okay. sorry. i'm done gushing and rambling now. thank you scorcese, mick, keith, ron, charlie.

p.s.psyched for jay-z live tonight in oakland!!!!

disclosure time - my history with hippiedom

coming out now.

i was a deadhead.

at age 13, something snapped. had to do with my brother who ran away and left me with 700 albums. yes, very "almost famous" - he ran away to hawaii. he also left me a killer stereo!!!!

i started playing everything, which was essentially the history of rock and roll. i put on i think europe 72 and heard tennessee jed. i had remembered hearing it through his locked bedroom (as well as many more). it clicked. maybe it was the subliminal brainwashing.

my first show was madison square garden 83 - yeah, the st. stephen show. i was hooked.

from that point on until 1989, i saw over 150 shows. i could write a book on this period of being a young scammer/traveller. i went to university of vermont because that's where the deadheads went. we spawned phish. they were our child. but college for me was really about being free to be on tour with the dead and doing just enough work to pass.

after 4 years of being with deadheads, i decided i was done with it. i went the total opposite direction. for years, i couldn't listen to anything that was more than a week old.

but i'm starting to come back. : )

is it me, or is new music not as good. i think i'm still open.

bon iver - some serious new talent

on the advice of my friend and fellow mogger, gdolorio(http://mog.com/gdolario ), we headed out to the independent last night in san francisco to check out bon iver. i'm usually pretty weary of "singer songwriters" types lately. too often the hype doesn't live up to the talent for me. i know i'll get some haters but i put iron/wine, ray lamontagne, in this category.

so, i was really pretty impressed with these guys. lead singer had some killer, neil young, emotionally charged, electric leads. he was doing the falsetto, precious voice thing, but in a good way. the way antony (antony & the johnsons) or thom yorke can pull it off. he's THAT good. leans a little more towards the soulful prince style falsetto then the other cats. drummer was fantastically attentive. i felt it with them. the real deal.

left wanting more.

VIDEO EXCLUSIVE! - MOG INTERVIEWS MICHAEL STIPE OF REM AT SXSW

Armed with questions from the MOG community, Mogger Indiepixie conducted a video interview yesterday with Michael Stipe. This is the first video interview he's granted about R.E.M's new album, ACCELERATE.

I think Indipixie needs a full time gig here. At this point, do we have any choice? Her heart beats MOG. Indiepixie, thanks for working with us on this!

odwalla has jumped the shark

sitting in a bagel cafe in lake tahoe and i just bought a odwalla called "serious focus" - cause i got so much work to do. (yeah. sad. i came to snowboard and i'm front of my computer all day).

my odwalla says in big caps, "NUTRITIONAL" as well as "enhance mental focus" and "enhance attention."

i look on the list of ingredients and water and cane juice are the second and third ingredients. WTF? so i'm enhancing concentration with a sugar rush?

i always respected this brand. now, i put them in the category with vitamin water. don't ask me how companies can use the word "WATER" to market themselves for drinks with sugar.

government needs to step in. people are getting screwed.

sorry for my rant. not a music post. : )

MOG at South By Southwest - do not miss

a couple of days away and i'm totally overwhelmed by the ridiculous number of shows to try to catch at this years south by southwest festival in austin.

for sure, i'm psyched to see REM at midnight at some private show (how am i getting a ticket???) also,

felice brothers

builders and the butchers

van morrison

my morning jacket

and the special, un-announced, mind blowing guests that will be playing mog's party for lou reed's berlin, the new documentary film by julian shnabel debuting at the festival. (not what's visible on the poster below - shhhhhhhh)

i'm blown away by our moggers charlene and indiepixie, who are interviewing everyone who's anyone on behalf of MOG including, michael stipe.

and..... i believe we've got perry farrell interviewing lou reed about the film FOR MOG!!!!!!!!! holy crap.

craziness. i'm also moderating a panel on the future of online radio with execs from pandora, realnetworks, kcrw and wired magazine. oh yeah, and there are like 100 parties i have to go.

and the tour i'm going on of the best bbq in texas.

yikes. i'll try to breath now.....

mogger extraordinaire, indiepixie got an interview with michael stipe from r.e.m. she'll be doing on behalf of mog.

she wants to use YOUR questions for him.

A Savior for the Music Industry - But They Must Act Fast

With sales down about 10-15% a year, we're fast watching the erosion of the music industry as we know it. In five or so years, the CD business will be gone. Right now, I believe, the U.S. market is doing about $9 billion a year in CD sales. Poof!

The reality as I see it is that online music is indeed killing CD sales. When Napster first came out, there was a lot of talk about how it encouraged CD sales. That doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I know I'm way more selective about purchasing CDs today thanks to online access, and often, I get free music almost by accident, just by stumbling my way through friends, MOG, CD-Rs, skreemR, and (well, a buck, but still) occasional single track iTunes purchases. Essentially: I can't escape music that's not on a purchased CD.

The labels may be hurting, but music consumption is at an all-time high! The average person is listening to about 100 songs per month via their iTunes media player. Multiply that by about 100 million people who listen to music on their computers in America. We're talking about a lot of consumption. The sad fact is that the industry is monetizing a very, very small piece of the total consumption market.

It's apparent: online streaming music needs to be free. And it needs to be free everywhere. On MOG. On Google. On Yahoo! You name it. In this imminent free-music movement, where's the money for the music industry? Revenue share in the advertising.

Right now, when sites like Rhapsody give 25 free songs per month away, they're paying the music industry about a penny per track per stream. At that rate, one cannot just give it all away and sell ads against it to make a profit. A site like MOG or Rhapsody would have to serve an ad banner with every listen of every track and sell the ad in excess of a penny per user per view to make a profit. You can't sell ads for that much today.

Here's what the labels need to do: drop that penny per track per stream rate to about 10% of what it is today (that's right - 1/10 of a penny per stream). When that happens, the labels are meeting the market and giving away music becomes lucrative; everybody and their brother starts doing it. The labels turn all of online music consumption into a revenue stream - every site with all-you-can-eat, on-demand music. Thousands of sites innovate and create new value around how to discover and consume music. By my estimate, that's a $250 million per year market for online ad spending alone.

Next, ensure that every streaming track links to the opportunity to download the track in mp3 (with Amazon or whomever) and the labels have created the ultimate promotional machine for mp3 purchasing (for the next 10 years, people will still need to download for their portables and their car). Then slap on a tempting upsell: offer users an ad-free, higher-bitrate subscription service for a reasonable fee (say $5 per month). Suddenly the labels have a shot at staying alive.

I don't see the labels really having a choice in the matter. This is their meal ticket, their way towards sustainability. When it comes to copyright, people just don't feel like trading is cheating. Ever see a sign at the public library that warns about photocopying copy-protected material? Yeah, funny, me too.

(By the way, the labels need to find some talent, too. That goes without saying. Did anyone watch the Crappys- I mean... Grammys?)

i must be on my 30th or more play by now. i'm loving this record.

what is most disturbing is that i bought the vinyl for 34 bucks and i'm told that it was recorded in analog but matador was too cheap to give rti (the pressing plant) the analog copy OR the high resolution 96khz master. they gave the downsampled 16bit verion and rti then transfered to vinyl. i have no idea why it would cost more but anyhewwww....

recorded in analog, transfered to crappy redbook digital, and then charge me 34 bucks for the vinyl? paleeeze

kill the shiny metallic cover. geez.

INTRODUCING MOG'S NEW POSTING HUB!

greetings moggers,

welcome to our new posts section:

http://www.mog.com/posts

- we've improved the overall interface based on user testing and lots of feedback. the mog-o-sphere is better than ever.

we decided to kill "listen", "watch", and "read" as three separate sections. now they all live in one easy spot. you can still access these sections individually by using the "embedded media" filter in the left hand column under "narrow results by" - go look and you'll see.

it's super easy now to get to music news, album reviews, and concert reviews. plus, a much improved user interface for sorting.

oh yeah, there's a new mogger browsing tool:

http://mog.com/browse

it's also accessible via the main navigation bar next to "recommendations."

hope y'all dig the improvements. new improved mp3 player buttons coming shortly and much much more.....

peace out,

my top album discoveries of 2007

greets moggers,

here's my list. these are not all 2007 releases but 2007 personal discoveries! so, in no particular order:

isley brothers - givin' it back
discovered shopping the bins at amoeba, i bought it because i dug the album cover. didn't open it for over a year and then out of boredom with my music collection, put in on and was blown away. sent me on a major 60's/70's soul kick. epic covers of hendrix, neil young and james taylor that shed new light on the originals.

roberta flack - chapter two
released in 1970, another one i discovered by buying from the album cover picture alone. (btw, what a nutty fun music discovery tool!) this album is sublime, like an inky sryah chased with a chunk of scharffen berger 80% cocoa chocolate. roberta was a cross between aretha and sarah vaughan. i put this on when i need to lower my over-caffeinated heartrate.

wilco - sky blue sky
the spirit of jerry garcia lives here. beautiful melodies that cradle me to the netherworld

radiohead - in rainbows disc set
no "kid a", but "house of cards" alone puts the record in my top list.
most bands would kill to have the radiohead "throw-aways" be their major album release. ha ha!(said with nelson muntz from simpsons accent).

marvin gaye - trouble man
most folks know the isaac hayes "blaxploitation" soundtrack to "shaft", but this one marvin did for the movie "troubleman", i like even better. killer, meters-style funk grooves, gayes masterful vocals and gorgeous ballads.

rilo kiley - under the blacklight
so so friggin slick. makes want to drive the malibu coast wearing all white, with this blasting out a convertible. i love her sexy pop voice. smooch.

ryan adams - easy tiger
the spirit of jerry living here too. for me, this is the record where ryan adams nails it. probably played this more than any of the others on my list.

jay-z - american gangster
hip hop as written in sunday's new york times might be in the toilet,:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/30/arts/music/30sann.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
,but jay-z saved the year with the so goddamn soulful release. proud of a man who can be so big and still dig deep into his heart and put out something so sugary sweet.

heartworn highways - various artists
incredible "field recordings" from the emerging singer/songwriter movement happening in late 1970's south. captivating, spooky, "you are there" recordings of townes van zandt.

new radiohead box set - what's inside

came back from an east coast trip with this lovely box set finally shipped to me. i believe it was supposed to have come by the 6th so it was a few weeks late.

the big question is whether it was worth the $80. overall, i think it was probably worth closer to $60. i guess the weakness of the dollar is what really clobbered americans on this.

you get a beautifully done box that is of the quality of a book from taschen or phaidon. see some pics i took below:

inside, is an art book, another booklet with lyrics and credits, the cd and better yet, the album on vinyl. lastly a bonus cd of killer tracks that were not released on the official album. i've included an mp3 of my favorite tune from the bonus disc in the post. enjoy!

below is an image from one of the lps. it comes on two 45rpms that appear to be pressed on insanely high quality 200 gram virgin vinyl. even the lp sleeves are best quality (paper on outside, plastic on inside). 45rpms mean MORE DATA which means on a good turntable rig, the sound quality puts the 16bit cd to shame. and btw, the cd puts the previously released mp3s to shame. the vinyl provides insights into sounds and emotion that were just completely lost on the mp3s that came out.

here are some pics from the funky art book. i'd imagine that inhaling while looking at these pics and listening to the album would truly enhance the experience:

for me, i'm cool with the $80 as i love this band and there are a few that are moving me deeply these days like these guys. if they did it again for the next album, i'd certainly pony up.

i think the solution here is really only one:

what i'm learning from feedback

seems that universally, people want more feedback from the player than a play button that plays the song. i agree.

we will never go back to the old player because the thing was too damn big for doing nothing but playing a song. it slowed down page loads! but we are spec'ing out something small that gives more feedback. will show buffering and show how much of song of total song is complete. give us a few weeks....

peace,

rhapsody on mac, mogger search, and other stuff....

rhapsody on mac works great. seeing lots of talk otherwise. everyone at MOG is on a mac and uses this splendidly.

hope you know we did this more because it totally kicks ass and is the best music experience online, no contest, than for anything else. we don't make much from this partnership.

if you live in the u.s., and don't try out the 25 free song or 14 option it is truly your major loss.

we will get mog search for moggers back up soon. we need to figure out how to do this well. in the meantime typing the word "mog" and the mogger's name into google works damn well.

btw, some coverage in wall street journal today:

Introducing the New MOG - Killer New Features!!!!!

It brings us great pleasure to share with you the next generation in online music experiences.

Welcome to the spankin' new MOG.

Be sure to take the video tour of key features now at http://mog.com/tour

Summary of New Features:

- Full Integration of the Rhapsody Music Service: Listen to millions of full-length songs. Wherever you see a 30-second sound sample, now you have the option to hear the entire track. MOG is THE killer way to use the Rhapsody service; learn why at http://mog.com/tour - you can try it for FREE!

PLEASE NOTE: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IS TAKEN AWAY IN THIS RELEASE. ALL MP3 UPLOADS ARE THERE. YOU LOSE NO FUNCTIONALITY!!!

- New MOG-O-MATICS for Mac and PC!!! The new blazing-fast, super-lightweight and ultra-stable MOG-O-MATIC applications for Mac and PC let you share your music tastes and get instant recommendations easier than ever before and better than anywhere else. 10X faster! Download them now at http://mog.com/download. (If you have an older version, the new version will automatically replace it upon installation.)

- A Mind-Blowing New Music Search Tool Called FASTSEARCH: Accessible from every page, FASTSEARCH provides instantaneous access to full-length tracks through Rhapsody, as well as MOG's vast content archives, for any artist, album or song. To fully grasp its power, a video tour is a must; get it at http://mog.com/tour/1

- Make and Save Playlists from music discovered on MOG, or accessed via FASTSEARCH -- and share them easily. Take the video tour at http://mog.com/tour/4

- A Whole New Look! We loved our brown-and-orange “boogie nights” vibe for a while, but you know how it is; like a five-star hotel, you gotta remodel once in a while. Of course, you can still use the classic “boogie nights” skin for your MOG page, as well as many other skins.

- New Compose Tools for Posting: We've made it easier than ever to share your thoughts on music with the world. Now, when you tag your MOG posts, we can automatically add a link to the whole song for anyone to hear. If the song is not in our database, you can still upload the mp3 to your post.

- New User Interface for Reading Posts: Now you can see more MOG posts per page without being overloaded with entire photo journals and 10,000 word articles. We display icons indicating whether the post features embedded audio or video, we show you the first uploaded image, and we abbreviate it with a link to read more. You can click on those icons to access the multimedia right from the top of the post. Also, as a default, posts are now sorted by “most recent.”

- New Super-Easy Photo Cropping Tool: Speaks for itself!!!

There's much more as well. Explore and enjoy. Perhaps we'll take a brief nap now… but probably listen to some music…. :)

Head over NOW to http://mog.com.

... and again, be sure to take the video tour!

crashpryor, you will not be forgotten

in shock to hear that one of our star moggers has passed away.

see url here:

http://www.legacy.com/TimesDispatch/DeathNotices.asp?Page=LifeStory&PersonID=96300787

crashpryor was one of my first real online friends. he was a brilliant, and funny man. and most important to me, his passion for music ran as deep as it gets. i had the opportunity to meet him in person at a mog party in l.a. and he was as great a person in real life as online.

you will be so missed on this website. and you'll be so missed for everything you've done for the music that clearly was the driving force in your life.

love you crash.

radiohead supposedly sells 1.2 million albums - and here's the cover

this is supposed to be from someone "close" to the band. i've been wondering if radiohead would deliberately announce this info and the average price per unit to encourage others to follow suit.

bear in mind this is before it actually goes on sale in early 08 on offical cd and before the $80 box set. not bad! they must be psyched. trust people. what a concept.

here's the cover:

arrived in venice today to innaugurate my 40th b-day in a few days.

believe it or not, i fell into a canal with only 4 hours in the city. too fucking funny. i was cold stone sober.

millions of people have probably lived their entire lives here without ever falling in.

maybe i felt the karmic waves of rawkiddo.....

social systems in real life or online are complex. perhaps mog needs a resident psychologist/sociologist.

a new mog is coming

first part will be in november.

we will be losing our boogie nights brown and opting for a more readable white. we figure, google spent gazillions of dollars researching that white is a better background for reading. we will be following suit.

moreover, there will be new features that will blow your friggin socks off. access to full length tracks instead of sound samples will be available everywhere on mog. we built the best front end to music consumption. soon, you will actually be able to consume all the music. EVERYWHERE. your mog page widgets will be able to provide full length tracks instead of 30 second samples. you will be able to add these to playlists. your recommendations pages will actually kick ass with full length tracks that you can playlist.

there's alot more than that. we are making an all out assault on how music is consumed. mog built the best front end to consume music without actualy having the music. that will be changing very very soon. hope you appreciate to newly found stability and speed increases. we will be cutting page load time in half.

lastly, there will be a new mogomatic coming out that is way more lightweight and will consume next to zero processing power.

LOOK OUT!!!!!

MOG Photo Exclusive: Wilco OVER THE TOP In Berkeley

friday night, myself and a slew of moggers (spencer, kate, supertopsecret, steve simon, gabe adiv, kb to name a few) went up to the greek theatre to see wilco.

having seen dead shows at the greek in the 80's, it's always been one of my favorite venus and to now work and live 5 minutes away is real privilege. the night was warm, the crowd beautiful.

the addition of nels cline as lead guitarist has taken my favorite american live act (radiohead still my number 1 live favorite) up a notch to the upper stratospheres of excellence.

i said this about radiohead last year and i'll say it about wilco. watching these guys is INSPIRING. to be so good and to know they've worked so hard to get here inspires me to achieve greatness in everything i do. what more can you say about an act than walking out inspired? screw self help books like the secret. go on tour with wilco instead!

tweedy's newly found sobriety seemed to be particularly sensitive to the amount of marijuan smoke in the air as he made more than a few comments to it, all in jest. at one point he begged the audience that they and everyone should stop using the expression "loves me some, as in i loves me some marijuana." another was that us the crowd, "smelled high" but stated that portland beat us hands down for quantity.

the songs are a bit of a blur. impossible germany, either way, handshake drugs, sunken treasure, a shot in the arm, and a blistering spiders(kidsmoke). they're taking this stuff to the next level. i MUST MUST get some live recordings from this tour.

what a treat! now, who's got the bootleg? we got mogger supertopsecret up close with a photo badge. enjoy his killer shots!......

mtv merges with rhapsody

http://www.forbes.com/2007/08/20/mtv-music-urge-tech-cx_pco_0820paidcontent.html?partner=yahootix

not sure how this plays out.

seems a bit strange that rhapsody, a fantastic service for people who have incomes, would merge with mtv, a massive audience that has no income.

maybe rhapsody could morph into a free, ad supported on demand streaming model. that would be interesting!

thoughts on MOG user interface concept

remove listen, watch, read as main navigational elements.
make them filters
make main navigational areas genres.
still have an "all posts" area.
i think jam band people are intimidated by metalheads
hip hop intimidated by indie rockers
etc.
people want their own areas
one could choose which group (genre) to publish their post.
there would be less intimidation to post.
most metalheads dont' want to read about emo
give fans their own areas
and let them flourish
maybe start with 5-10
and then splinter off
within genre, could be sub genre groups.
all posts in subgenre go into genre area, but not all genre into subgenre
jamband folks have their own hood
jazz folks would come to mog to hang in their own hood.
many people tell me mog is intimidating
this would take some of that away
phish fans could wallow in their own jamband pool
posts sorted by most recent
each genre section would be it's own mogosphere
genres groups could eventually have their own look and feel. black for metal, etc.
