that's truly insane. i'm only used to hearing the raffi version. this would scare the crap outta my kids.
David, I had the same initial reaction you did to hearing about this album but after lisyening to that video I may have to buy it!! That was awesome! Very clever how he worked the names of US Presidents into the song too.
.....The video is quite good. The cd? Somewhere between Self Portrait & Dylan.
...& the infamous wig returns.
Had a chance to hear the entire album and it's really quite a fun album.
he never invites me to those parties anymore. probably because i bought him socks one year.
I actually like this version---the song and the video are funny........especially with Dylan's deadpan: Who laughs like this, "Ho ho ho..." for example.
I admire Dylan's songwriting ability, but this is one of the few songs recorded by him that I like too, haha! I have a friend or 2 who will really appreciate it....I will pass it along!
"Who laughs this way: ho, ho, ho?"
Has to be my favorite line redone by Dylan here. Surprisingly triumphant!
Dr. Demento is licking his chops!
I laughed until I cried....
It's like the Ghost of Christmas Future discovered his voice.
I am now officially in the Christmas spirit
;-)
This is definitely one for the time capsule. I heard the Ken Tucker review on NPR's Fresh Air, which includes a number of choice samples. If you haven't heard it, do yourself a favor. You know, I am of Dylan's generation. There's a lot to admire, here, even enjoy, in ways I can't explain. But I really can't listen to it. Must Be Santa, however, is more for smiling and genuine laughing than for cringing.
This may be #1 of the Top Ten Reasons to Buy This Album. from http://feedingamerica.org/newsroom/press-release-archive/bob-dylan.aspx
"All of the artist's U.S. royalties from sales of these recordings will be donated to Feeding America, guaranteeing that more than four million meals will be provided to more than 1.4 million people in need in this country during this year's holiday season. Bob Dylan is also donating all of his future U.S. royalties from this album to Feeding America in perpetuity."
The video is not enough to get me to buy the album, even if there is a charity angle. Think it was David Hidalgo wailing on accordian, and maybe his Bobness was taking a tip of the stovepipe hat to Tom Petty.
As someone once said 'If you can't say something nice, don't say a fucking word!' haha.
A-1: Irony. We don't get enough of that around here.
BB: Yes, It's Hidalgo. I was thinking of Willy Wonka (L. DeCaprio). Playful but scary.
Thx Spike. Johnny Depp played Willy Wonka not DiCaprio, ftr.
Oh, my bad! Of course! If I were having a good day, I might have ... Oh, I was thinking, "starts wiith D" and all. Well, that's a small step for a man, but a giant leap for my brain.
Haha, no worries. My OCD tendencies reared their ugly head & couldn't let it go by, especially since I love & own that movie as well as a big Depp fan.
