  1. spaceling says a full, ripe, and delicious new year to you, Papa MOG. (interesting coincidence: listening to Mort Garson's "The Ride of Aida" while reading your post, I could have sworn I heard a MOOG shofar blowing). Love and Joy to all earthlings.

  4. fastnbulbous says Funny, I was just on a Joni kick. I had passed up Court And Spark for the longest time because I hate tha song "Help Me." But I borrowed it from my boss and I could understand what she was getting at, similar state-of-the-art production for the time, like Steely Dan. Brilliant album. Also picked up For the Roses, an underrated bridge between Blue and Court and Spark. Before Don Juan, however, I'd recommend Hejira and The Hissing Of Summer Lawns. It was the strength of those gorgeous, creative albums that inspired the great Charles Mingus to summon her to his sickbed to collaborate. To have been the last artist he wanted to work with before he died, what an honor.

  5. david hyman says i would not recommend hejira or hissing over don juan. i think they both sound terribly dated compared to don juan, which in many ways, was a kick off to hipster interest in "world music" - and the predecesser to stuff like graceland.

  6. wassonii says happy new year! joni... familiar, sweet, truth. this saturday has been dedicated to the new roots and nurse with wound. finally had the realisation that it is indeed radiohead being sampled in track 12(atonement) on game theory. beautiful.

  12. LambCurry666 says Blue is one of those extremely rare 'perfect' albums where every single damn note it is just right and every second of the record is wonderful. It's truly magical and timeless. I also wonder if there is a resurgence in popularity - I heard Carey playing at Starbucks the other morning....

  13. B42 says Been using this album for my "Joni fix" for awhile now...... "Travelogue finds Joni Mitchell sticking to the orchestral format that worked so well on her 2000 album, Both Sides Now, where she took a series of American standards, hitched them up to a 70-piece orchestra, and gave them her own quirky twist. With Travelogue, however, she has applied that technique to her own back catalog. Recorded in London's Air Studios with an orchestra, 20-voice choir, and key players such as Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter."more

  15. pinkfish says as you know Blue is a fave of mine. my mom always played Court and Spark but never Blue, she loved it but it made her too sad. i discovered it in my early 20's and pull it out whenever i'm feeling pensive or thoughtful. All I Want kills me everytime. so this is your temple? not bad....
