WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

throwing down gauntlet - black crowes came back to release my favorite album of 2009

Posted 3 months ago

i'm totally floored. the black crowes, who's first two albums continue to give me joy to this day, specifically "southern harmony and musical companion", really lost their way for an incredibly long time. they haven't been able to nail the melody coupled to raw rock grit the first two albums (and a handful of incredible bootlegs i have) pulled off so well.

i was intrigued when i heard they recorded their new album live at levon helm's joint in woodstock in front of a live audience, and hopeful their love for the dylan/the band would put pressure on them to deliver in front of levon and his crowd.

so, i put this on today and was nearly teary that they've come back so strong. this might be their best record! it's got everything the records since the first two have missed, and they've somehow taken it up a notch.

what a killer suprise really. i'm going to be playing the shit out of this for the next few weeks. i'll report back if this is just my roobois tea and lack of sleep or the real deal.

encouraging to see many others in agreement. AMG gave it 4.5 stars. many other wonderful reviews coming in.

if you're not familiar with the crowes, yet you worship at the alter of the rolling stones, go get this record.

Word to this.  I had this one for a couple of weeks before I gave it a spin, and then was in disbelief.  Damn good stuff.  Lovin the acoustic disc as well.  It's kind of the exception that I like a piece of music right off the bat, but this one is money, and I liked it from the get go.

I've always been a big fan of what The Black Crowes have done.  Right from the first - Shake Your Money Maker.

I'm pleased to hear they are back and doing what they do best.

The musical landscape is a fuller one with them back around.

    Aww, thanks ;-)

I've read some killer reviews of their recent live shows too.  They played both New Jersey and New York recently.

I'm glad the Brothers Robinson are seeing eye-to-eye again.
