WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

cat power's latest - shame on matador

Posted about 1 year ago
i must be on my 30th or more play by now. i'm loving this record.what is most disturbing is that i bought the vinyl for 34 bucks and i'm told that it was recorded in analog but matador was too cheap to give rti (the pressing plant) the analog copy OR the high resolution 96khz master. they gave the downsampled 16bit verion and rti then transfered to vinyl. i have no idea why it would cost more but anyhewwww....recorded in analog, transfered to crappy redbook digital, and then charge me 34 bucks for the vinyl? paleeezekill the shiny metallic cover. geez.

  1. Cody B says That is a bummer,David. Of course Matador, despite their excellent taste, has always been higly business oriented. Not that that is a bad thing. Kinda the Mirimax of sort-of-Indie Rock. The basic premise of the music business is to screw the fans anyway you can..they are junkies, they'll come back. I bet it still sounds pretty good.

  3. Baines says That sucks... I hope they don't give the same treatment to Malkmus.

  4. Me and the Horse I Rode In On says Really? That's no good. This doesn't sound right though. It should not be more expensive. Think this was an intended move and not just someone accidently sending off the wrong master.........................realising this too late and then thinking..............who will notice?

Recorded in analog but no rti (the pressing plant) the analog copy OR the high resolution 96khz master...then gave the downsampled 16bit verion and rti then transfered to vinyl...this is just too bizarre to make any business sense. Then again...they got $34 out of you so maybe it's just business as usual.

By the way...digging the album too!

Went to Barnes and Noble the day it was released after receiving a coupon for the album in my email. The music clerks had no idea who or what the album was and it wasn't in their shipment! I had to come back the following week. No wonder the retail industry for brick and morter music stores is dying. They take the time to promote a release (with a coupon to boot) and then don't even stock the title or make their employees aware of a promotion.
