MOS DEF last night at small jazz club in oakland

don't know what to say but to go this after a worldwind relaunch was an incredible gift. for me it was somewhat religious. the jay-z unplugged record with the roots (real musicians, real instruments) has always been one of my top go-to records when i dont' know what to listen to. so when i heard mos def was doing this gig at yoshi's with a bunch of jazz cats, i paid out the ass through craigs list to find some tickets.
in this small acoustically heavenly setting with maybe 300 people, mos and his band took us all to another place. the band was a bunch of young uber-hipster hotshot players equally adept at coltrane and miles as radiohead and dilla. yes! he did radiohead all that i need, stevie wonder, a love supreme, poetry, scat, dub, funk, west indian patois, slow groove r&b, a dilla tribute (mc squared!) and more. i was floored (and delirious from the last 2 days lack of sleep) and healed and caressed and brain tickled. drummer, keyboard player, sax player, whomever you are, you killed it. you tore the roots to shreds.
i would kill for a soundboard of this, or for mos to put out a record in this vain. what a seriously talented dude.

Sounds incredible, and think how much better it would have been with a Mog iPhone app (hint hint - shameless I know, but I had to use the segue).
I'm only half kidding. I'd love to hear some new material from Mos Def, though.
Please, someone score a soundboard of this... The guys at Yoshis know how to mix for shiz...

liz and kids will be there tomorrow night. join them. plenty of room
while the cat's away, the mice will play
i'm going to see the black keys at the new fox theater in oakland. haven't been there yet. dying to get in.
Ughh..I missed him in New York but I saw him in 2 plays awhile ago - Top Dog/Underdog and F*cking A here in New York City. He's fantastic but I have never seen him perform as a musician!! I have a friend in South Africa who recently saw him last week. She said he was awesome.
So glad you were able to enjoy his work. He's a great guy. When I saw him in NYC, I told him he is going to win a Tony Award one day. He laughed at me saying, "yeaah right." I'm sure he will. Did you ever see him in the movie,
