THE MUSIC BLOGGING HIVE MIND

a new mog is coming

Posted about 1 year ago
first part will be in november.we will be losing our boogie nights brown and opting for a more readable white. we figure, google spent gazillions of dollars researching that white is a better background for reading. we will be following suit.moreover, there will be new features that will blow your friggin socks off. access to full length tracks instead of sound samples will be available everywhere on mog. we built the best front end to music consumption. soon, you will actually be able to consume all the music. EVERYWHERE. your mog page widgets will be able to provide full length tracks instead of 30 second samples. you will be able to add these to playlists. your recommendations pages will actually kick ass with full length tracks that you can playlist.there's alot more than that. we are making an all out assault on how music is consumed. mog built the best front end to consume music without actualy having the music. that will be changing very very soon. hope you appreciate to newly found stability and speed increases. we will be cutting page load time in half. lastly, there will be a new mogomatic coming out that is way more lightweight and will consume next to zero processing power.LOOK OUT!!!!!

  1. MrFrost says hell yeah, can't wait. every update you mentioned is something I was waiting for, especially the lightweight mog-o-matic. I run so much stuff, anything that lightens the burden on my system is great...

  4. Hermes says I don't bother a lot about the background colors. But if research says, that white is better, I have no problem with that. The "full length" listening at the mentioned places is for sure a very good add-on and highly appreciated from my side. Btw.: I was always wondering about the legal issues regarding the pubished tracks. As it is a kind of public broadcast, we would come in conflict in Germany with the "GEMA" - our institution, that watches for the rights of artists. But as MOG is located in the U.S., I guess, this is primarily a U.S. issue. Do you have some deal with your music industry? I'd feel a lot better publishing music, if I would know for sure, that no one can sue me for uploading tracks from my favorite artists.

  5. B42 says Guess that makes it Mog Gamma? or are we up to Delta... Cool beans dude, change is good and if Google says it's so, so it must be, gonna miss boogie brown, white tends to be a bit bright for me. Anyway to add live replies? Unrelated but here's a neat little addon for those Firefox fans out there - Cooliris, I've been lovin' it. Mog On and On

  7. B42 says "mog built the best front end to consume music without actually having the music." - good economic model, govt. take note;)

  8. indiepixie says can't wait to listen to a whole song. Those 30 second snippets drive me batty. And as long as Mog pages never look like typical blogs, I am down with the color scheme change. Keep working hard David to keep this universe turning. Mogs is unique for me b/c moggers are real, no-bullshitter types, passionate, and devoted. (at least that's what I gather...). Why wouldn't music lovers want music? without handcuffs at least....music without handcuffs is my motto :) peace peace!

  15. contrabandwidth says I'll miss brown! But it will be easier to hide at work! Those features wound fantastic! My only suggestion would (this is inspired by Blair's post on hidden 90's gems) would be Mog user programmed streaming channels for Hype Machine (or what ever streaming player you use). Seeing what people posted on the 90's, I know we could have some sweet radio stations judging by Mog's diversity. Looking forward to November!

  16. caliscrnwrtr says well this is all nice and wonderful and all, but how is it that your it guys have the time to do all that in a few short weeks when it's taken 2months for someone to even pretend to get my avatar back up? how can a simple outward facing mog photo be massively more complicated than revamping an entire website?

  20. davis64 says The next step better be that Mog actually crates music for you - analyzing your musical collection and habits and then merging together billions of sound samples to create your personal, perfect track. I don't care if that isn't "possible" - it'll make me think I'm living in the future. Looking forward to the white!

  22. ivylander says What Dale said. I don't have a good feel for added features. At first I thought the audio download capability was something of a frill - now it's one of the best aspects of MOG from my perspective (the populace will always lead the list). So I don't trust my initial judgements about stuff like that.

Kudos if you've been able to carve a path through the DRM.

  33. contrabandwidth says Could you please disperse all your leftover brown Mog shirts to those of us that have been here awhile (I know it hasn't been a year yet, but I feel like family!) We can be "brown shirts" which could really work as a great Mog meme, where as us old skool Moggers (pre-white) would be revered for our "brown-ness". It is all very Ween like, but if you wont make me Mogger of the week (unless I declare it) then I want what's left of your extra inventory (gimme a shirt)!

  36. Bartleby says Thanks for keeping us in the know. Quote: "lastly, there will be a new mogomatic coming out that is way more lightweight and will consume next to zero processing power." This may be the selling argument for me. In all earnest, I hope all these wonderful things will not come at the expense of MOG itself: namely, hopefully it'll still functional while the new version is implemented. (I've know some websites which announced upgrades only to disappoint all their devotees, simply everything went bonkers)
