Have you wondered why there is such good business done with movie soundtracks? I have and the conclusion that I come to is that the juxtaposition of music and story is so emotionally powerful, and we as human beings resonate with it so much, that we feel compelled to re-experience the experience and buy ourselves the soundtracks which are often times not quite as rewarding. The public radio show This American Life has this effect on me practically every week. They play such perfect music over their stories. It hits you right where it counts - subtly manipulating my emotions - and I love every second of it. The Austin band Bexar Bexar is one of the bands that they often use. They're incredible. Ethereal and haunting and dramatic and lovely. Check them out. They're coming out with a new record. I can't wait.
