The Verve join EMI boycott

Posted about 1 year ago
From ananova.comThe Verve have joined a mass of EMI artists threatening to withold their next album.Wigan's premier rock outfit now join a long line of artists including Robbie Williams and Coldplay by protesting against the label's threatened jobs cuts.Richard Ashcroft and bandmates are now threatening to withhold their next album until they receive assurances about the record label’s financial security. The band's long-awaited follow-up to 1997s Urban Hymns was due in June, but following the announcement of the restructure at EMI, a question mark now looms over what action the band will take.As previously reported by Orange, Radiohead and Paul McCartney have already turned their back on the troubled label and walked out.Trouble stems from May last year when private equity firm Terra Firma bought EMI for £3.2billion and began restructuring the record giant.

  1. democlez says Well, if EMI are doing so bad financially, why don't they just sue a few more single parents and college students? That's been working in their favor so far... hasn't it?

Dave, it sucks that us fans in wait of a decade of production silence, we must again wait through some bueracracy to did a flippin album, that's what bloody happens when a big-non-caring-sadistic-money-power-hungry-mother-butter company slides in and offers a big chunk to a struggling label, it was like selling your soul to the devil for money printed in dissapearing ink....fahkers
