Shower Iggy Off Me!

Posted over 4 years ago
Just read the new bio of Iggy Pop "Open Up and Bleed." Think I'll hop in the shower and get that decadence off-a me! Needless to say I could hardly put the book down. Great photos too! Not much needs to be said about the influence of Iggy and The Stooges. I am impressed by his "indomitable spirit," as the saying goes. Not to mention physicality, which seems to keep getting more pumped up, the older and more sober he gets! Here are a couple of clips from his mid-career single "Lust for Life," followed by use of the Pop/Bowie song in a TV commercial. Since Royal Caribbean is not a hedonistic cruise, I trust they didn't bother looking into the lyrics:Here comes Johnny Yen againWith the liquor and drugsAnd the flesh machineHe's gonna do another strip tease.Hey man, where'd ya get that lotion?I've been hurting since I've bought the gimmickAbout something called loveYeah, something called love.Well, thats like hypnotizing chickens.Well, I'm just a modern guyOf course, I've had it in the ear before.I have a lust for lifecause of a lust for life.I'm worth a million in prizesWith my torture filmDrive a GTOWear a uniformAll on a government loan.I'm worth a million in prizesYeah, I'm through with sleeping on the sidewalkNo more beating my brainsNo more beating my brainsWith liquor and drugsWith liquor and drugs.Iggy in Lust for Life video for movie Trainspotting:Lust for Life used in TV ad for Royal Caribbean cruises:And a 1991 live performance at the young age of 44:Long live Mr. Osterberg! And, er, stay clothed now & again...

  2. RobinH says Thanks for the post - must check the book out. Iggy puts a lot of men, 30 yrs his junior (at least) to shame.

  3. Lady Miss Ian says Must be my dirty mind, but I read your headline as "Shower me off, Iggy." Which, of course, I would love. ;-) I hadn't heard about this book yet, Dar. I'll have to search it out after I'm done with the Hip Hop history I'm reading. Cheers!
