SUTC: Froggy went A courtin'

Posted over 2 years ago

Ok Here's a good old classic folk song from back in the hollers of west virginia! (actually I have no clue where it originated or even who first preformed it) Anyway heres a slab of americana covered by Doc Watson. It's intended for children but it's one of My favorite versions Ive found so far.

Rummy: feel free to enlighten us about this track if ya have the time.

And here's Warner Williams and Jay Summerour doing it! There's probably thousands of versions of this song since it's only got a basic premise and the details are up to the preformer.

I just KNEW Mr. French had a turn with this one - and a few others as well -

The song has been recorded by Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and many others. Folk singer Burl Ives performed perhaps the most well-known and kid-friendly version, in which Frog and Miss Mousie are wed.

Once again I would thank you but as that would negate thankless job I wont tho I will tip my hat in your direction in appreciation which while it's akin to thanks isn't quite thanks and so can be recieved on technicality.

DMDM: Ive heard dylans version, it wasn't bad but it wasn't as down home as some of the others. With this style of music I want it to sound like somebodys uncle is picking it on an old acoustic at a family bbq after he's had a couple beers. You know the sound.

The thought of Froggy a-courtin' somehow brought to mind those old tales of psychedelic toad-licking - and Chuck Jones' classic WB 'toon "Some Froggy Evening." Cute song though.
