WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Death of the Album

Posted over 3 years ago
To elaborate in another direction on the Metallica topic below........... MSN has an article on the Death of the Album located on the front page:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14011748/?GT1=8307The article lists the top 10 concept albums (Not by Pink Floyd or The Who). Here is a copy of the list:10 classic ‘concept’ albums**That aren’t by Pink Floyd or the Who— “In the Wee Small Hours,” Frank Sinatra— “Face to Face,” the Kinks— “Black Sabbath,” Black Sabbath— “What’s Going On,” Marvin Gaye— “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars,” David Bowie— “Red Headed Stranger,” Willie Nelson— “London Calling,” the Clash— “Purple Rain,” Prince— “Death Certificate,” Ice Cube— “OK Computer,” RadioheadI was wondering what everyone's thoughts on the list (albums that needed to be added or removed), or what is YOUR favorite concept album. (Mine is Nightfall in Middle earth by Blind Guardian for a modern one and The Wall by Pink Floyd for classic.)

  1. Direlander says My Alltime favorite concept Album is "Thick as a Brick":http://www.jtull.com/discography/thickasabrick/index.html from Jethro Tull. A bit modern is Marillion's "Clutching at Straws":http://www.raingods.de/modules.php?name=Content2&pa=showpage&pid=688.

  2. phantom says This reminds me of some of the radio stations around here, they would omit any votes for Led Zeppelin as the number 1 band for years because they would always win. You can't really leave then off though can you ? I can't see how any one could have a top 10 concept albums list and leave off Floyd and the Who, For whatever reason they may have.
