What are the chances that Ian and the boys wrote this song (above) in response to this song (in video):

I don't know how true it is, but I've read (< that's a link) that 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' was in direct response to the song. ??? I'd rather not think about it ... or else I might feel compelled to find "muskrat love" in another JD track. :/.

Is that why it's so damn catchy? Ian was imitating Toni Tenille? My wife and I, through numerous separations, have always claimed the JD track as "our" song. We have managed to outlast our belovedly twitchy Mr. Curtis, though.

Dachmo, it makes sense that Joy Division may have been inspired by Captain & Tenille. Even if others may have noticed the possibility before you did, if you noticed it on your own, that's great! Isn't it fun when that happens? I wish the video had not been lip-sinc, but that's life.

Blasphemy - Thinking that Ian had Captain & Tenille's vinyl on his shelves is a heresy.

If I was in a band at the tale end of the '70s and the only thing I kept hearing on the radio over and over again was some piece of musical idiocy and especially if I was having problems with my marriage then yeah I might just say "Fuck, No! Love won't keep us together. Love will tear us apart! ya stoopid cow" and then I'd go and write a song, except mine would be called "Ya Stoopid Cow!" and my band would never record it and I'd end up working the local slag heap next to my father and brothers and we'd all eventually drink ourselves into and early unremarkable grave. With my luck.
