WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Let the music speak for itself

I at first wanted to just post "Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley"then thought, "maybe not". This is the first three songs off of Robert Palmers first solo album, from 1974. I hope you've got the time.

  1. kat3260 says everybody remembers Palmer for the dancing girls in the "Addicted to Love" video, but they should remember him for this early stuff. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Max Load says I love this album so much. Bought it around 1978. Everyone who's ever heard it has been impressed.
This is much older than it sounds. Still so chill and so sexy. I love it. mmmm
Has been missing for a few years now. Must replace.

  3. Justin says one of my favorite all time albums....so slinky from top to bottom. if you can, get your hands on phish covering "sneakin' sally" from 1997-1998....they go deep into the funk stratosphere with it.

  4. waydutch says had thought of this as a Little Feat song as I heard Lowell Goerge do this with them in concert back in like 77 (a definate nomination for the best show I’ve ever seen), though can’t find a Little Feat version listed anywhere. Shows what I know. Then saw the first song from the Palmer album included Sailin’ Shoes, a classic Little Feat song, and Hey Julia another song I’m sure I’ve heard Lowell do, though again no listing. A little more checking and I found out Lowell did guitar on the Palmer album, never made this connection before. No wonder this all sounds so Little Featish to me.

  5. dachmo says Hey Way!! How are you, haven't spoken recently! I don't know much about Little Feet but will do my homework. This is what I've found out about your L.George connection: from "allmusic.com":http://wm06.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:h9fixqe5ldde Before becoming a slick, sharp-dressed pop star in the 1980s, Robert Palmer was a soul singer deeply rooted in R&B and funk. Those influences are on full display on his debut album Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley. With a backing band including members of ** Little Feat and the Meters**, the music has a laid-back groove whether Palmer's covering New Orleans legend Allen Toussaint (the title track) or singing originals ("Hey Julia," " Get Outside"). While the music is tight and solid, it is Robert Palmer's voice that is revelatory -- he sounds supremely confident among these talented musicians, and they seem to feed off his vocal intensity. Fans of the Meters or people who want to discover the funky side of Robert Palmer should check this one out. Lowell George is listed as composer of the song _"Sailin' Shoes"_ which is the first of the 3 songs that open the album. Thanks for making the connection otherwise I never would have known, and I like to know these things!
