I just paid $40 for 10.3 gallons of gas

Posted almost 4 years ago
Translated into British that's: £20 for 39 litres of petrol which after further investigation I found this at "TimesOnline.com":http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/natural_resources/article3841903.ece"The Automobile Association said that petrol prices had hit a national average of £1.098 a litre yesterday, equivalent to £4.99 a gallon.Petrol is expected to pass the £5-a-gallon mark this week."Since £1 Sterling is basically equal to $2 'merikan I guess I should just stop complaining and thank God and George W. Bush for the oils we are receiving. That 10.3 gallons I just pumped into my Jeep would've cost me roughly £50 in England or $100(!!!) Keep fighting the good fight America!!

  1. brandarius says i was thinking about how GW must get all his gas free. disgusting, all of this. i paid $50.03 for 11 gallons of diesel today, myself. the first time i haven't filled up with bio diesel in awhile but it's .40 more & i'm on the "first of the month" budget.

  2. Groon says I thought biodiesel was actually cheaper? Shows you what I know. I've been seriously considering the purchase of a scooter. I might look a little dorkish, but at 80 mpg I can handle it.

  3. dachmo says bio diesel is .40c more a gallon? what car do you drive that takes diesel anyway? or is it converted? I'm 37 and I just started driving (cityboy here) so this is just eating up all my cash that I used to spend on booze and smokes. I'm not digging it!

  5. brandarius says yes, sadly it is true that it is that all diesel is much more that gasoline these days. apparently the bio diesel companies are blaming the high cost of soy and production, because (get this) gasoline is required for their machinery. soy costs more than it ever has. i drive a gorgeous 1979 Mercedes 300TD Wagon in black - perfect for Seattle! Takes bio just fine, but really should spend the $3k to get the straight veggie oil conversion.

  6. Groon says See? That's what I'm talking about. I didn't realize that the larger ones required a motorcycle license. I've been looking at getting a 150 cc engine. I wonder if those are considered "larger", considering they sell them upwards of 250 cc. hmm . . .

  8. dachmo says **Brandarius** I was going to say an older Mercedes, A friend of mine has one as well. Outside of some trucks and green conversions I didnt think diesels cars were still being made. That Mercedes of yours sounds like a tank if it's the one I'm thinking of. There's some issue with a chemical farmers were using to keep their soy crops weed free but it came out that the chemical causes horrible birth defects and cancers decades down the line so now they're being conscientious and not using it so the weeds are back and harvesting the soy has become more costly. So if you are a person who likes tofu, watch out! this might seriously affect you. I eat lots of soy so I'm a lot freaked out by this finding. (and of course the US is trying to sweep it under the rug) **Groon** I'm thinking of just buying a regular old Bicycle for getting around town, I'm no longer in the city so its much safer to bike it here and there to do local errands. Plus it's better for me health wise, money wise and environmental wise.

  9. goodmusiconly says It sucks indeed. And what sucks even more is that if we were to take the money that's spent on the f*g war and put it into research for alternative fuel / energy sources instead (ethanol not being one of them), we might be able to pull ourselves out of this jam. Humans ... so smart yet, so stupid.

  11. mollifire says brandarius - there's a place in Portland that will convert your mercedes to run on SVO for around $1500. it's called Lovecraft Motors! i used to run my mercedes on biodiesel and SVO and it was soooo cheap! it still runs great on both, but i sold it a few years back. now i want to get another one and have it properly converted by the Lovecraft Motors in L.A. Biodiesel can be completely independent from gas prices and soy prices, you just need to find a new supplier. it can be made just as easily from recycled veggie oil with no negative effects and that would have nothing to do with crop issues. i know for a fact that there are numerous biodiesel collectives in WA and OR between Olympia, Seattle, Portland, Eugene, Corvallis and Ashland that sell it much cheaper than current diesel prices. Use Google to find more info on any of this. Down with the Gas Insanity!

I hope the radio station pays well because you'll have to support me until I get a job which might take a while considering I don't speak Greek. SO yes, gas(petrol) would be cheaper for me, if you're paying for it.

  30. Anna says Awww :* They cut all the weekend shows off {about a month ago}, they want a music only weekend concept. I'm not bummed out at all, we were having artistic differences {ahem} lately anyway and the show had become a factor of stress and displease to me.

  32. Anna says The PR team reached an ending earlier. I think that if we were still handling that, I would have stopped about now; the direction the radio station is going does not agree with what I have in mind. Trying to relocate. CVs will be sent in London based music related companies at the end of May. Here's hoping :)

  35. Jonh Ingham says Oh stop moaning about the price of gas in America. :- ) I just filled the car yesterday and it translates as $120. And if I want to take the train into London during rush hour - about 30 miles - it costs about $56 return. And the BPI wonders why people "steal" music...
    Permalink posted 05/03/2008
  36. dachmo says But Jonh, our asses are too fat to fit on a bicycle seat or scooter what are we going to do, walk? I'm the same distance you are but to NYC and the fare is $20 RT. If our prices ever got as high as what you're paying, there would be riots or at least I would like to think there would be riots, there would definitely be a lot of blogging about it, that's for sure.
