WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Jump Tomorrow

Posted about 1 year ago
Back in the summer of 2001 a little movie hit the theaters called "Jump Tomorrow":http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0273300/ . It was about a shy guy who is about to be married off in an arranged marriage, except he doesn't love his soon to be wife he loves another girl from his office, and she doesn't know it. The main character, George, is played by Tunde Adebimpe. If that sounds familiar to you it's because Tunde is now the lead singer for TV On The Radio. If you're into independent/quirky cinema then I suggest you rent this. You can find it on the IFC channel every so often as well.

  1. goodmusiconly says Independent and quirky is right up my alley... yet another to add to my cue. I haven't heard much of TVotR beyond Cookie Mountain, so thanks for that too.

  2. dachmo says That album title up there is mislabeled, the song I posted is actually off of "Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes". A great album (again, said with my best Scottish accent)

  4. Augusts1 says I love TV On The Radio & a movie w/Adembimpe has got to be great. Thanks for the heads up.

  6. dachmo says Good, it's a fun little movie. The director wrote and directed it as a short film (titled "Jorge") for his senior project at NYU film school, it got enough attention for someone to back him in turning it into a feature length which he did and it ended up winning an award or two in the UK.

  7. Augusts1 says Cool, looking forward to seeing it. I love small indy films, but then again, I just love movies period.

  9. Misstee says I always confuse this film with 'Dirty Pretty Things' starring Chiwetel Ejiofor(who's the new Denzel Washington)and directed by Stephen Frears and has a much darker tone than Jump Tomorrow so I don't really know why....

  11. ardyjormkiv says he can act too?? yeah, i guess i can see that. i bet he brings energy to the screen...at least he does to the stage. thanks for this. i'm quite intrigued.

  12. ardyjormkiv says in addition, i think 'staring at the sun' is off of young liars as well (which is an ep) but 'desperate youth' is phenomenal. i can still remember the first time i heard 'staring at the sun'...they had me after that.

  13. dachmo says you are correct it is a slightly different version though. Something about this song always makes me want more, I want it at some point to just fall into 30secs of yelping and screeching guitars. I feel like it builds and builds and builds and then it's over. (sounds vaguely sexual, I know)

  14. HelenMarie says Ooh la la...after hearing the song and then reading your comment...I just have to see this guy perform (...on screen)!

  15. Bartleby says I must say men like Tunde are so gorgeously talented that I feel like a woman looking at them :p

  16. dachmo says I'm surprised he doesn't act more, even in the band you can see he has the awkward geek thing down to a tee.

  18. Jonh Ingham says First time I've actually heard TV on the Radio. I don't know what I was expecting but it sure isn't this. I know that makes no sense, but sometimes a name gets a feeling around it before you hear the actual sounds. This is bizarre and weird and I like it a lot.

  19. dachmo says It might be their most accessible track on that album as well. it took me awhile to warm up to their sound but now I see what all the fuss (around here at least) was about.

  24. Anna says This was my second time in London, so my touristy insticts were a bit down. You can see plenty of London *"here":http://annazrk.multiply.com/photos/album/29/London*, from my trip there in June! :)
