More Crack Please!

The first and only review I read on this band informed me that if I was aware of a band called Echo & the Bunnymen then I had no need to buy this album by "the Mary Onettes" because they were essentially a copycat and Echo did it better anyway. So I said "Wow, alright." then a few weeks later I listened to "a post by Dale":http://mog.com/Dale/blog_post/75263 that changed my mind, completely. This album is aural crack and it is true that if you're somebody that likes "Echo" then you will also be somebody that likes "the Mary Onettes". Another "from start to finish" album, excellent.

    Girlcrawl says 'Aural crack'...damn funny descriptor - like it. I'm a fan of Echo & the Bunnymen as well as The Mary Onettes, and I do not regard the latter band as a 'copycat' of the former. Excellent album 'from start to finish' indeed!

    soulrocket says i can definitely see the similarity on "slow", still they seem to take less risks than the bunnymen. i may be alone on this, but i dont see why the teardrop explodes are not getting as much recognition as the bunnymen. it may sound strange today, but in the uk the teardrop explodes were bigger than echo and the bunnymen back in the day. kilimanjaro is such a great record. ~wAHPHVvbeM5.mp3~

    poebegone says Can't give it a fair shake just yet, David. I am loving what I'm hearing but then I've only given the whole album 3 spins by now. Many new CDs + time-consuming work = madness and things that stay wrapped in plastic for too long (like the other CDs I haven't opened).

    LHOOQ says i blew past this album as well - thanks for bringing me back for a listen. i agree with Max Load, Slow is definitley closer to New Order than Echo but Henry reminds me so much of The Church. The lead-in is absolutely influenced by Under the Milky Way Tonight

    dachmo says I will admit these guys have taken their cues from the New Wave bands of the past but it's alright by me. I'm still trying to find that article I read that really put them down but no luck, pitchfork didn't give them much praise but thats Pitchfork. When an album is this good does it really matter who the influences are? I don't think the guys in the band are trying to hide anything here. I hope you like it!

    LHOOQ says all art borrows and builds on what came before it - often in ways that even the artist doesn't realize. i'm always surprised when i hear that fact cited as a reason to dismiss a band's work. for me, if you're going to be influenced by someone you could do much worse than The Church Thanks again for posting these tracks - i like them a lot
