  1. 1234chainsaw says One of the best TH songs and albums IMHO.

  2. dachmo says No arguements there I've been a big fan since I can remember. DB's a very cool guy in person as well.

  3. deadmandeadman says I have tried and tried and tried, but beyond the "odd" track here n there, I cannot see what so many have obviously seen (heard?) in The Talking Heads.

  4. dachmo says I'm like that with quite a few bands myself, Take Zappa for instance, I like a lot of music that's Zappa-esque and I like a lot of bands that are influenced by him but when it comes down to it I just can't hear his music. No sense beating your head against the wall. I also can't stand the Beach Boys, I wanna like them but I don't. There's more but I'm afraid you'll right me off if I continue.

  5. Lester Jonze says I have just recently gotten into the Heads and have been listening to _Speaking in Tongues_ and _Remain in Light_.

  6. Groon says Yes yes yes! God, I love the Talking Heads!! And this album and track are one of the best (Remain in Light is without a doubt my fave, and one of the greatest albums of all time, IMO). I feel I should point out that Robert Fripp of King Crimson fame played gest guitar on this track (I'm not actually sure what track is his, though). He has worked extensively with Adrian Belew for over 25 years now, and at this time in TH's life Adrian Belew was pretty much a full-time member of the band (listen to his scorching solo on Remain in Light's "The Great Curve" to get a feel of what Belew can do. I'd post it here in the comments but I don't have access to it right now. Anyone care to? Dachmo?)I wish I could click "Like post?" more than once.

  8. Groon says Awesome. Thank you! This song gives me chills every time I hear it. It's like a religion, if that makes sense. There are so many freakin' things going on all at the same time. Not to take away fromt he original post here, but I've always thought of the sounds on Fear of Music, and "I Zimbra" in particular, as being a warm-up session for Remain in Light.

  9. scotfree says Yes. I'm a big Heads head, but I can't listen to them much after "Remain In Light". It's a peak that I believe they realized could not be topped. In my top ten.

  10. Jonh Ingham says Card carrying Heads fanatic over here. They used to do mini-tours of LA and I would go without meals to see all their shows. This period was when Byrne was starting to turn into a confident entertainer. At one show he took the mic off its stand and held it like a crooner. From the waist down he was moving in a sort of fluid dance groove, from the waist up he was so stuff he was like a statue. Very funny. 'Drugs' is my favourite on this album.

  11. dachmo says I'd have a real hard time making that decision. Every single song on their first six studio albums provide pretty much everything I want out of music. I'm very sad that I never got to see them live at some point.

  12. Augusts1 says My first year in college(a baptist one too) in '80 a dorm mate gave me this album cause it reminded him too much of his drug days in high school. I never did drugs, but this album I imagined was as close to doing them as I'd probably ever get. It was my first TH album & I didn't take to it right away cause it was just weirder than anything I'd heard up till that point. It wasn't until I got out of college that I started listening to it again & realized what a fucking brilliant album it truly was. DB made me laugh w/his funny lyrics & vocal phrasing & it rocked. I've been a diehard fan ever since. *Deadman*, that's EXACTLY how I feel about The Grateful Dead. I love their song 'A Touch of Grey' & I've heard live recordings but I just could never get what the hell was so great about the Dead.

  13. Lizziegreeneyes says Long time appreciator - but it was *August* who got me on the path to true enlightenment & I haven't deterred since !!! Great good stuff & no question he/they were/are a hugely influential man/band !!!

  14. goodmusiconly says Awesome. TH - One of the best shows I've seen in my life, to say the least ... Red Rocks, 1984. I got to see them live, but you got to meet the man. How cool is that... Adrian Belew a few years back was trés bon as well.

  17. dachmo says **Erin** I've always wanted to see a show at Red Rocks, is it a great venue for music?
    Permalink posted 10/18/2007
  18. goodmusiconly says It's stellar ... you should make a point of it. Just saw BJM there a few weeks back ... not sure if that was the best venue for _them_, but I've not seen a bad show there yet. The artists are always so happy to be playing there.

  19. christheskins says I remember feeling literally scared by them doing "Psycho Killer" live on "The Old Grey Whistle Test" then at the time of "Fear of Music" i felt a little too much like David Byrne sounded anyway.. I love "I Zimbra" ..part due to Eno's production,i always think of "Fear of ..." having a real "World Music" sound..plus a totally paranoid take on life... ."London ...dark in the daytime" "Little Creatures" was the one i enjoyed the most, with dope-head mates..(grew out of that ). i did get to see David Byrne on his own at a smallish place ,Shepherd's Bush Empire at the time of his first solo album... Just two weeks back one of the U.K national sunday papers gave away the DVD of "Stop Making Sense" .. Byrne at his Reptilian looking best!!

  20. dachmo says Stop Making Sense is a great live album the expanded version is good as well but I recently got their first live album "The Name of the Band is Talking Heads" and that's really really good.

  21. vannatta says Awesome album - and I remember dubbing a tape of the Stop Making Sense video because of what they did with the original live album - redubbing drums - and of course, not including the whole show. Not sure what the Special New Edition is like - anyone?
    Permalink posted 10/18/2007
  22. dachmo says Isn't the SNE also the expanded version? unless there's been a new re-release in the past two years I think it's the same thing.
    Permalink posted 10/19/2007
  23. vannatta says I think you're right...
