New Wave Wednesday

h3. "Tinseltown in the Rain"I'm still finding New Wave treasures 23 years after the fact. I don't know much about these guys other then they only recorded 4 albums between the years of 1984 and 2004. This song was their big hit. I eventually picked up the album this came from "A Walk Across The Roof Tops" and it's very good. That is if your a fan of bands like Talk Talk and Blancmange.

  1. Augusts1 says Geezus D, you are all up into NWW _already_! I didn't know of these guys until just a few years ago when my boss introduced them to me by loaning me one of their cds. I can't say I was very impressed by them though or at least w/that particular album(I don't even recall what it was now). Liking these songs though.

  3. scotfree says Morning dermahrk! For the avatar answer, go to dachmo's most entertaining post from yesterday http://mog.com/dachmo/blog_post/118335 - if you dare! Dachmo, I ran into The Blue Nile a few years back in a Todd Rundgren interview where he was listing what he was listening to. As I recall, he really admired these guys and I think you can hear the shades of influence in Todd's "The Individualist" recording.

  4. walkingthecow says dachmo...you have to check out my 80's blog. www.xanga.com/eightiesalbumoftheday the blue nile is such an awesome band. i agree with you that "a walk across the rooftops" is good album. i would also pick up "hats" and also their newest "high". "peace at last" only has a few good songs.

  5. dachmo says **August** I didn't take to them right away either, I remembered hearing "Tinseltown..." on the radio from back in the day but then I found the album very enjoyable after a few listens. **Dermahrk** Yes, I'm loading up on some scary face avatar's for Halloween, this one is from "Beetlejuice". **Scot** I think, and I may be wrong, that the band has a more adult friendly sound to them then a lot of New Wave did back then. I remembered the song from the video when I was a kid but it didn't have the effect on me then like I'm finding now. **WtC** Yeah, I saw that allmusic.com gave "Hats" as their pick. I'll have to see if I can find it. If you've got an '80s blog then I'm there!

  7. goodmusiconly says Oh man, I loved "Stay" (still do) ... and I bought _Hats_ when it came out because I really liked "Headlights on Parade," but an ex-boyfriend absconded with it and I don't think I've heard it since. I can't embed it, but "here's a link":http://youtube.com/watch?v=DImZO6SNAx4. Nice, D.
