**After Years of Being Out, the Necktie Is In**By Davin Colman for the New York TimesGEORGE McCRACKEN doesn’t have to wear a tie. A 25-year-old painter in Manhattan who works in store design and display to pay the bills, Mr. McCracken is a member of that lucky group who can wear just about anything they please to work. But George McCracken does wear a tie. “I don’t ever wear a collared shirt without one,” he said. “It started when I had a job where I had to wear a jacket and tie, but after I left, I started wearing it anyway, out with friends, as an informal thing. It just felt comfortable.”

  1. nicki says And methinks it must be a very skinny tie...

  2. Jonh Ingham says But does he wear it with a cutaway collar? Or a button down collar? Or a tab collar? Does he use a tie clip? (Have you tried to find a tie clip lately?) I think David Colman hasn't even started to tell the story here. Nice album cover and tune.

  4. Jonh Ingham says I'm reassured. [Continues indecision over which autumnal tie to wear with Turnbull and Asser poplin shirt]

  5. Anna says The song is so pleasing. The album title is perfect. And the album cover should be in a frame on my wall.

  6. dachmo says Kind of fits with your glowstick fetish.

  7. Anna says Oh dear. I just read that they released this album in 2004! I thought they were an 80s band! *hits herself in the head with a yellow glowstick* Loving them more each minute. Can you indulge me over at M maybe? :)

  8. dachmo says Starting around 6pm tonight ( I think that's 1am for you) I'm going to devote myself to figuring out my Multi pages, after that I will eMail you and ask you to stop by. How's that sound? Although it may be around breakfast time for you when I'm done. How was your rainy day? It's still raining here. Different clouds, same grey.

  9. Anna says Sounds just fine, David. Whenever you have the time, no worries. It was lovingly melancholic; the music boosted this feeling. It's no longer raining and now I'm enjoying the peace and quiet that always seem to follow its end. And how about you?

  10. dachmo says It's quiet as well, although it's just starting to rain now. Loved the photos you were able to dig up of Thessaloniki, I still owe you a tour I'll put one together when I get my M page up. I'm awed by the age of things, like the trees I loved to climb, and I'm always amazed when a city such as yours has a modern office building standing next to a four thousand year old city wall. In NY the oldest man made thing still standing is maybe 200 years old. You go out further west and your lucky to find things any older than 100 years. I think that's why many Americans have a lack of interest in culture, because for many of us there is none.

  11. Augusts1 says Loving this song D, thanks for posting it. You & your newbie new wave obsession, heh!

  12. dachmo says This album came out in 2004. Just wait until next Wednesday!!

  13. Augusts1 says Yes, I saw Anna's comment about it coming out in '04 but it still isn't any less new wavey.

  14. Anna says Ah good, I was wondering if the M album worked out for ya. Glad you liked the pics. You know, having so much culture is a double-edged sword. You can be appreciative about it, cherish it and always seek it, or you be culturally spoiled, take it as a given and become indifferent towards it. I've seen both things happen. I think you'd like many parts of Greece. The combination of ancient monuments and modern buildings is very often.

  17. Girlcrawl says Cut Copy can soundtrack my future indefinitely! Fantastic post, and I need to obtain some of those 'glowsticks' that Anna seems to be stock-piling - what's in those puppies anyways? Cheers! :-)

  18. Bartleby says I like the artwork. Reminds me of some of Robert Gniewek's paintings. Clinical and commentating at the same time. Not unlike Cut Copy's tunes you've posted here. Cut Copy sounds a bit like Air on their "10,000 Hz Legend." (Turnbull & Asser shirt? I've always that Mr Ingham is a dandy under his fishing cap.)

  19. bloodtea says Did he try wearing a tie with hawaiian shirts?
    Permalink posted 10/11/2007
  20. dachmo says Classy, that McCracken is!
    Permalink posted 10/11/2007
  21. bloodtea says I hate ties. I hate hawaiian shirts. If McCracken had the audacity to wear them both... must say he would be my vision of death (and I'd probably kill him if I saw him somewhere somehow)

  22. dachmo says I bet you he shaves once a week and wears lots of ironic t-shirts, damn you McCracken!! Damn You!

  26. bloodtea says Fine.. me neither! Let's pretend this conversation never happened. And if it did... well, we can say it's a bit late, I'm tired and I don't make sense when I need to sleep. Apologies accepted :)
