h2. New Wave Wednesday!!This being the brainchild of Brooklyn's own "Misstee":http://mog.com/Misstee, who I'm assuming is queued up in the rain trying to get in to see the Ian Curtis biopic "Control":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUz6y6ANIgE.In honour of that why don't we start with this, something we all know and love and what better way to start off our first **New Wave Wednesdays**:

  13. Anna says God, I do hate genres sometimes; wiki doesn't mention JD in the new wave section (c'mon, wiki people...), but it does mention Depeche Mode's Everything Counts, but in the wiki entry DM of Everything Counts the song is classified as synth pop an early industrial music. Confusion! Bah. Fuck 'em. I'll post what I feel like.

  14. Lizziegreeneyes says h1. ANNA is my HEROINE !!!! The depth & breadth of my love for you girlfriend is exponential !!! & I do agree - figure it's a good way to start out if you're not sure the term... but I've always thought DM NW, screwem all - we make our own definitions & we have the ability to go against it !!!

  15. Lizziegreeneyes says The lads were babies in that video - ahhhhh does my heart good !!!

  16. dachmo says Purists will say that New Wave was a term used for bands that fell into the poppier post punk catagory. Modern English was New Wave, Howard Jones is not. Altered Images is, Erasure is not. To put an official time stamp on it, it went from 1978 to 1982. But then a lot of these bands, who were orinally considered New Wave, started incorporating keyboards and synths and their sound started to change. At the same time new bands like Depeche Mode where starting up and immediately started using synths and keyboards so they started out being known as New Wavers as well, then the whole thing blew up and New Wave became the term used for all alternative music that came out between the years 1978 - 1988, roughly. and in a nutshell.

  17. fistula spume says Hooray for New Wave Day. And YouTube.
    Permalink posted 10/10/2007
  18. dachmo says Visage nice!
    Permalink posted 10/10/2007
  19. dachmo says Now Visage was a band that was around in the late '70s and they were all into Bowie and Roxy Music. They were in the New Romantic movement that spawned Duran Duran, Icehouse, Spandau Ballet. The New Romantic sound melmed with the poppy post punk New Wavers and that lead to the birth of what most people consider new wave today.

  25. Misstee says I love that Seymour Stein head of Sire records at that time gave us the term 'New Wave'. He also gave us Madonna. Blessing? Or a curse?
    Permalink posted 10/10/2007
  26. dachmo says Madonna was kind of New Wave-ish in the beginning. She used to be in this band, briefly (before the recording contract): I think it was the drummer from this band that went on to write some of her biggest hits in the mid-late '80s

  33. soulrocket says im in for a new wave day. anna- i guess joy division is not listed as new wave in wiki because it might have been tagged as after-punk or post-punk. the cure was on that bag too, along killing joke and other british bands. the new wave bands had a happier sound.

  36. fistula spume says You know I always felt that New Wave was over hyped. Old Wave really is the way to go. Post Modern Wave was cool too but it just didn't have that Rockefeller feel to it like Old Wave did. ;)
