Last week as I was preparing my apt. for the movers (more on that in a couple of days) I took a moment to flip through some vinyl I had stuffed away in the back of my one and only closet. Among other now old and dusty albums I found possibly my first great musical love, **U2**. Prior to their almost 2 decade long poncy ways, U2 had been a band of true youthful conviction. They had yet to discover the south of France or just how good they looked in leather pants. Needless to say around 1987 I took down their poster and crated up their albums. I still don't have anything of theirs in digital format. When I got to where I was to start unpacking I pulled out my old friends and had a listen. I'm happy to say we reconnected.

  1. Augusts1 says Great song D, always liked it since it was so cheesily different than any of their other songs. It's fun to reconnect w/those old friends. I did that w/Elvis Costello's "Blood & Chocolate" which I had on vinyl(& was my first EC album) & hadn't played in years since my needle is broken & I've not replaced it. I requested it on M so now have a digital copy Btw, if you'd like I have all U2's cds from "Unforgettable Fire" on & can upload to M for you(all their early albums I still have on lp only).

  2. dachmo says Thanks A, I'll be looking forward to that! Could you do "Unforgettable" & "Joshua", I'm still a bit iffy about the rest.

  4. kristiana says Ah, one of my first great loves too, and not ashamed to say so. Oh yes, they can be a bit much. And Bono. Well, Bono is Bono, it's true. I didn't like Achtung Baby when it first came out, rubbed me the wrong way. But then after a few listens I fell totally in love with it.

  5. dachmo says **Augusts** Yes, I know they recorded other things without me as a fan, I don't know why they did but they did. If you want to post what you have I'm sure I would be able to cotton on to a couple of their newer tunes as well. **Kristiana** Achtung Baby, is good? Okay, I'll give it a shot. **Augusts** - One order of "Achtung Baby".

  6. Augusts1 says "Achtung Baby" is probably my favorite cd of theirs, I bought it & loved it from the day it came out, so yes you need to give it a chance. So I will post it to M. Actually I know that "Achtung" was posted recently, I'll find it for you.

  7. Groon says "Unforgettable Fire" and "Joshua Tree" are both stellar albums. "Achtung Baby" for me is about half and half. Some songs, like "The Fly" (one of my all-time fave U2 songs) completely rock. Others leave me feeling a bit bored.

  10. FluxCapacitor says Fantastic! Had only heard the live version of that track before. They're currently in their studio in Dublin city centre putting the finishing touches to the new album. First one collaborating with other songwriters - Eno and Lanois (even if they do know them pretty well).

  11. dachmo says I'll keep an eye out for it as I have done with all of their albums over the past 20 years. I know they still have an enormous fan base with a lot of those fans having never heard their first 4-5 albums so they must be doing something right.
