Covers :Or is it uncovered

I am liking this new covers album by Joan as Policewoman. Her version of Keeper of the flame by Nina Simone is different but am liking it just as well

Really smoldering. Right away when she started singing, I thought Billie Holiday.  Never heard it before.

This video wouldn't buffer and play all at once.  I went and found this other one. Too bad it cuts short.

Right interesting instrument the side men are playing. Baritone Uke.  Nice solos.

Got the first clip to play without interruptions by selecting the HQ option. Strange. Anyway, excellent solo on the baritone uke and Joan is a great singer. I don't hear Nina Simone or Billie Holliday so much as a contemporary, Hope Sandoval. Very similar approach and style. Hope to catch Joan if she ever plays the Bay Area.

i really should get on board with JAPW. if i'm not mistaken, she (Joan) was in a rock band called The Dambuilders that i liked a lot back in the '90s. thanks for the nudge, CP. (:

Here's another name that keeps coming across my (virtual) desk.  Thanks, cpeterson - for putting it all together in one handy post for me to get "up to speed" with.

glad to read the respect!  Joan was a fixture on a bunch of projects when I spent more time in NY than i do now and if she was involved, you knew it was good.  when JAPW started, it was quite exciting to hear.  she's more of an associate than a friend, but spread the word.  it'll make you look good!
