WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Your show of shows

I want to thank emscee (thanks cuz) for recommending this site. I've never blogged before but this forum is fun because it allows me to recollect some of the great shows I've seen over the years. In no particular order, here are some memorable moments:1. Rockpile - Warfield Theatre SF 1980. This was their first show as Rockpile and the joint just jumped. They played encore after encore and we left exhausted.2. The Blasters/Los Lobos - Kabuki SF 1982 (?). First time I ever saw Los Lobos. They were the opening act and really opened everyone's eyes.3. The original Blasters reunion show - Slim's SF 2002. The place was electric and the Alvin brothers were snarling at each other (as usual).4. Ramones - Bottom Line NY 1976 (?). The ceiling was low and the sound was loud. My ears are still ringing and I still giggle when I think of the show.5. Toots and the Maytals - Wohlman Rink NY 1972. They were part of an all-day reggae show on a beautiful day.6. The Band - Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga NY 1970. Before this show, the only Band tune I'd heard was "Up on Cripple Creek." Glad they didn't play it.7. Eric Clapton & Friends - Montreux Jazz Festival Switzerland 1986. Believe it or not, Phil Collins is actually is pretty decent drummer.8. Rahsaan Roland Kirk - Montreux Jazz Festival Switzerland 1972. I was standing on the side of the stage and this cat was cooking!9. Desmond Dekker - The Paradiso, Amsterdam, Holland 1986. He played "The Israelites" 4 times.10. Origin with Chick Corea - Yoshi's Oakland 1999. Just a beautiful sounding band.

  1. Dave says Sounds like some great shows. Who did the original version of "Heart"? I love that song, but I have no idea if it was an Edmunds/Lowe original or not.

  2. cosmo says Yes, this version of "Heart" was written by Nick Lowe. It's nice to have the vinyl on hand so you can see the songwriter right on the label!

  4. Dave says Amazing, that's a great tune. Sounds like vintage 1958 doo-wop!
