MGMT, Lil' Kim, Kids, CREAM #1
A friend referred me to this artist a week ago. Since then I have been mesmorized by The Hood Internet's mixes. They're original, wildly variable, and most importantly, they mix together tracks that I would in some cases never listen to solo. Single soundwaves from MGMT fall into that statement's bucket. I can't listen to anything they create, and yet a mix of Kids and Lil' Kim totally appeals to me in numerous ways.. The logic is murky at best.
However, the opposite is also true. Samples underlying these mixes might tickle my ears so violently that I can't stop myself from listening. Violence levels aside, this kind of of music discovery ranks first among all methods. Enter Wu-Tang on the right side of the ring. Enter Javelin and Giles Peterson on left side of the ring. After a few spirited jabs, a comfortable handshake occurs in the middle.
This song can simply be described as a near-perfect blend of C.R.E.A.M. by Wu-Tang, and Intervales Theme by Javelin. Wu-Tang could be a bit louder in the background, but they are otherwise expertly mixed into the pocket of the funk. The slightly positive nudge of bass frequency is welcome. Listening to the original Intervales track allows an interesting drum-related component to bubble to the surface. Hi-hat patterns feel slightly more swung in this mix due to some altered pattern dynamics. That production decision was brilliant.
