Totally weird but so cool.

Hola.

I was here at work for 13 hours yesterday due to the presence of Hurricane Gustav in the Gulf Coast. My company is involved in catastrophe risk, and naturally a hurricane sets off all kinds of alarms. I also forgot my iPod and thus had plenty of time to think about what I would be listening to if I could.

This song is another great example of the genius that is Wax Poetic. I am not Turkish and have no idea what language is being used in this song, but it is fairly atypical to American ears -- I like it. I assume this song has something to with Istanbul given its recurring presence in this song. That was deep, I know, you can comment on how deep that was if you want!

In any case, in contrast to many of the songs I listen to, this one is not particularly beat heavy. But, the rhythmic elements fit together perfectly and fill just enough space. My personal style, especially when talking drums, is that too much sound ruins everything. Here we're listening to a shaker, a bass drum, and random cameo appearances by the hi-hat, the snare, and a conga or two. In the background, electronic samples fill up some of the space not conquered by drum patterns.

That space is priceless because, as you might imagine, it can fill a room. Often, when I listen to music, I turn it up loud and sit smack in the middle of my surround. I'll point my player to this track, close my eyes, and just take what the speakers are offering. This scenario, time and time again, ends up being one of the most relaxing activities, ever. On that note, I'm actually buying a better stereo to further increase the quality of sound hitting my eardrums (audiophile here).

In any case, I have to run to a meting. But, I've never been dissapointed with a WP song. Check this one out.
