WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

More blip-hop.

I'll say outright -- there's nothing spectacular about the vocal elements of this song. Though they hail from none other than the Wu, Masta Killa and GZA don't fit all that well into this song. That being said, I tend not to be focused on vocals and more on the beat.Prefuse 73 (aka Scott Heren) has to be one of my favorites. One Word Extinguisher was my introductory Prefuse album, and I've never lost touch with it. Similarly, I still listen to tracks from Surrounded by Silence on a regular basis. Why not mention one here?Heren is famous for his intricate blips and bleeps and extremely careful manipulation of the dials all without losing sight of the fundamentals. More so in this song than in others on the album, you hear the hip-hop beat -- it's meant to stand out.Balance is the key element in this song. For example, the stereo-separated growl on every upbeat -- it's quiet and unobstrusive, but it's as important as anything else in this song. The beat as whole is kept whole by a small addition such as this one.Check this one out if you haven't heard any Prefuse, and if you haven't heard any Prefuse, check all of his stuff out. - C

  1. brittanybf says in my mind's eye, it's hard to imagine wu tang members on top of a prefuse track.
