I felt obliged to allow Jeru the Damaja to grace my MOG twice in one week -- this particular song is great for a whole number of reasons. Numero Uno: I instantaneously assign 1,503,184 brownie points to any beat that successfully makes use of a piano. The right combination of chord choice (by the original artists) and sample quality is nearly impossible to come across. This particular piano sample has both -- and makes peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on the side.Numero Dos: A silky electronic piano sample. I believe I'm hearing a Fender Rhodes in this song, but I'm not 100% about that. If anyone has a better guess, please, correct me in the comments. That being said, this piece of beat just works. The aforementioned sound is silky but not Kenny G cheesy. It's not imposing, but you know it's there. Again, it just works.Numero Tres: This song is another example of a song that has a simple bass on 1-3, snare on 2-4 pattern. It's so simple, and yet it helps to keep everything else blended so well.
