MUSIC CHATTER AND MATTER

Great Beats. A continuing theme here...

Latyrx is one of the artists I randomly stumbled on (a while ago, not just this past second) that has been on and off my radar a countless number of times. At this moment, he's a prominent blip somewhere near the middle. If you've read any of my previous posts, you know that I'm very much a beat afficiando and less focused on the rhymes. However, no assumption should be made that I'm unappreciative of rhymes. Latyrx is an artist that truly motivated my small but powerful lyrical interest. All rambling aside, Latyrx has nearly unparalleled flow, and a voice unmatched by most. Any time I hear a track by him, there's no split-second guessing--I know exactly what to expect. But, let me get to the beat, because that's really what I'm thinking about. I continually use this word to describe the music, but it's perfectly applicable: lo-fi. The samples sound as if they were masterfully extracted from some dusty, scratched up old record hanging out below a couple of rotten sandwiches. But, that's exactly the kind of sound that I'm interested in. Aside from the samples themselves, the pattern is great. It's simple, yet essential. It doesn't overpower anything else in the song, but it isn't weak. You know exactly when to raise your hand in appreciation.Check it out, it's a newer one in my collection, but a quick favorite.

  1. brittanybf says Thanks for pointing me in the direction of your blog. This is some good stuff right here. I'm not as familiar with Lyrics Born as I should be, though I've had numerous people tell me I should be listening to him, so I didn't know he was part of this group. It's that good Cali underground ish! I can hear what you mean about the samples coming out, hidden under nasty sandwiches heh!
