I know, I know. This album won a whole bunch of awards. Therefore, it has much to live up to and likely will dissapoint. But, I didn't hear about the album until I knew it won the awards. A Robert Plant/Alison Krauss duo simply hadn't been on my radar.
First, the rhythm. I immediately latched onto it because of its similarity to another song I really love: There, There, by Radiohead. Listen closely to both and you will hear a rhythm similarities, especially on the drums.
There is also a lot of raw rock emotion in this song, despite the folk underpinnings. While listening to the guitar wail during solos and transitions, I picture Robert Plant simply rocking out on stage, headbanging, and wandering aimlessly. I swear, being on stage leads to all kinds of unintentional and absolutely hilarious movements.
Overall, the album is impressive. It far exceeds my expectations, and may even lead to further searching within the various involved genres.
Check it out!
