MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:

So CodyB has got the Mog-o-sphere thinking about what their favorite posts are! And it has me thinking that it's time for the second installment of The Best Mogmerican Music Blogging, this time edited by The Mog-o-sphere.

In this installment you will find such classics as:

Shop Therapy by Cody B. - Cody shows his stripes (Stars and Stripes that is!), by doing a little retail therapy in the name of Freedom lovers everywhere, all the while discovering what it means to truley fetishize a collection of music.

The Truth Comes Out at Last - by Joxley - The truth comes out about Anna, due to some intrepid research by our author/detective...

I Blame The English - by FluxCapacitor - There's a fine line between love for music, infatuation, and blogging about music drunk. Where ever that line may be, Flux crossed over it long ago. This is either a rant, worship, or Irish Pride/self deprication. You choose...

The Myth of Punk - by Groon - Your no punk, if you show your love for Progressive Music, just ask Groon. In this post Groon sets the record straight for many of us who may just "wax philosophical" about a genre or period we didn't exactly experience first hand.

Beware The Mullet -or- They Live by Dzendvokh - I've often stated my absolute disdain for the mullet joke, but you guys love it, and here's proof...

Something You Don't Know About Me - by Fistula Spume - Fisty's a man of many hats, and one of the most diverse musical ears on Mog. But here's a little in sight to the man behind those strange Japanese Noise Pop posts or Italian Disco remixes...

The World's Most Expensive Bat Mitzvah- by Sethpian - Ciara, 50 cent, Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, and Aerosmith. At - A - Bat - Mitzvah. Performing. whoa...uh..whoa.

Hallowe'en Costumes for Everyone - by bloodtea - What should your avatar be next hallowe'en, just ask Ms. bloodtea...

I GOT BLISTERS ON MY FINGERS- by Lyrikhan - Beatles? Led Zep? Sabbath? Who "invented" Metal? Lyrikhan lays down the facts...

Post your favorites in comments below!

Mogmerican? No Europeans allowed? ;)

I'll have a look around and let you know, although I don't archive my posts and it will be a mess.

I can't access the links either, not even the one for Cody's post.

Madeline - Links should be fixed now.  For somereason copy and paste added my name into it.  Went back and checked them, should be good to go.

Cody - Yes, very much a Norton Mogthology...

Mogmerican is a universal term like human or earthling (well that last one is more specific, but at least specific in planetary terms).  Mogmerican is a Mogapean as well...

Will do :)

So what happens here exactly? Each one of us chooses his/her own favourite post of aaaall time?

Posted

Sure, or a favorite from another Mogger...

Oh, I see. Thanks for elaborating!

I'll go a relatively recent one, since I don't archive my posts, it was actually a team post, and plus people should know who to avoid....that would be EVERYBODY. MOGgers are disturbed! :)

Oh, I know, he banned me from posting on his blog because of some off hand comments I made (about the lameness of mullet jokes).  Obviously though, I'm in the minority, since I have never had that many comments on a post in my life.  So, sour grapes in my mouth, I bow to him...

There's no way you'd read that thread. NO WAY.

Maybe I should do a second version....it's been so long....

Love it.  Can't think of any right now.  I blew my list earlier.  It'll hit me at 1 a.m. tonight in the middle of a dream I'm sure.  Sweet picture.  Looks like a cool book.

"Fantastic idea Contrabandwidth"  cool of you to put this together!

Anna!  NOooooo...not your freaky girlfriend post!  Haha. (I was joking about that last comment I mentioned in there.)

I compiled, everyone else did the work.  It was CodyB's post that revived the idea, mostly just out of the idea of having a way to access some of the better posts.

Oh right.. some bad blood ...;-)

Actually I agree with you ... I wasn't saying mine was a particularly stellar post.. rather an example of how some posts spawn other posts which refer back to other posts and on and on....and well... that's the nature of this place.

Posted
| Permalink

No it's a good example, and though I stated my opinion on the matter, I'm just trying to give the peple what they want.  Yes, we can all be guilty of leading posts astray - like my comments in Cody's original post which inspired his Mog History 101...phew!  I can be guilty of hijacking a post as much as the rest of us, or running away wit someone elses idea.  Nature is a strange beast...

Speaking of derailed posts and comments I had a lot of fun with August's post about seeing Shud33's band.  I don't know how that happened but it did.  http://mog.com/Augusts1/blog_post/166619

That A1 thread is boss fisty. Thread jacking is a time honored MOG tradition.I used to be put off by it but, I'm all for it now.

It does seem like the days of the 100 comment thread..things move so fast round here.  In a way its good, because if you don't bring it from the start, you are sunk.

Was it you or Rawk that did a post on Breakdancing or Breakin' and had the Alfonso (from Silver Spoon's) guide to breakdancing?  That was one of my favorites.

Speaking of Rawkiddo...the song titles fitting to cars was quite a memorable one for me!  Everytime I see a PT Cruiser I think "Won't get fooled again"  hah!

Most excellent Tyler!  Both those posts were funked up.  The ones Sunshine pointed out were really cool too.  I know what your saying about someone else remembering one.  I completely forgot about those Breakin' ones.  I had to really dig to find them though and I went through a ton of my posts.  I'm really lovin' how much yours and Cody's posts got me all nostalgic over old posts.  It's fun!  I keep thinking to myself if it weren't for you I wouldn't have seen that How To Draw A Bunny movie, or rented the Bruce Haack documentary or downloaded most of his catalog from your link.  Good times.

Hey, the pleasures mine!  I don't know if I could get through all your suggestions in 100 years time, there's been so many.  Strangely it's your delving into Sebadoh which has brought me back to things like the Kids soundtrack, listening with new ears, wondering why I didn't get it back then.  I'm always late to the party anyway, and will probably get to the good 90's music I missed around 2010.  Like I said, it's always an honor to be able to expose you to something!

Posted
| Permalink

As I've always said (because I did the math) it would take 4 lifetimes of listening to music non-stop to hear everything that has ever been recorded.  That's just music.  I'm glad if I can turn you on to Sebadoh.  They're one of my favorites.  it's like proto-emo (and I hate that shit and why they never bring up Sunny Day Real Estate is beyond me).  We're always late to the game for everything.  I had this idea in the early 90's that if I was always going to be late then why not try to be early.  That's all very well and good because I still hate a lot of music.  You gotta pic your genres when your ready for them.  I still fucking hate a lot of music and have no time for it.  I like you because I feel that we share a common love of weirdness and art.  Plus you seem to command a greater skill of innernetz bulshiz.
