The idea of this post is to try to create a musical path or mix of certain elements (cover, sample, or auditory minutiae that can connect the tracks) of a song and see how far you can go with it. This is a test of your music geekiness, so rack your brains and see if you can add to the post.
For example I'm starting with Aimee Man's cover of Harry Nilssons One which will be followed by The Beta Bands Won which uses a crucial sample from that song to construct their song. Now maybe you would post the 3 Dog Night version of the song or something seemingly related.
I am basically interested to see how far this can take people - like when you search for something on the internet and end up somewhere completely different then what you started with. Feel free to explain your choice or just post in the comments below.

Hey, it's okay, the rules aren't that specific. I actually thought of this one too, and think it works nicely. The point is to take it to some other place through some twisted path of thought. I see it as a the final post being a non-sequiter. Like you could see the final being something like, i don't know, Sunshine Superman, and then everything in between some how led us to that. I'm still trying to figure out some rules - kinda like the 6 degrees game, but I just like what each song leads people to think. Thanks for your post!

I'm going back to the Nilson/Aimee Mann cover. Beautiful song, have always loved Mann's version, and was never familiar with the original.
Here's Bill Frisell's version of Neil Young's "One of these Days", I think there's a relationship in more than just the "One" in the title, i could analyze it but i'd rather not. Plus it's a cover, like Mann's.

All I can come think of right now is "The Flying Saucer Song" on Nilssons Pussycats - The album was produced by Lennon and sticks with that sort of outer space theme. Which I'll have to post later (if I actually have it).
I think I've thought of some rules for this game that may make it a little more concise, but no less fun. I'll post about it and see if we can make something out of this. This has been fun, thanks for indulging me and helping me follow my whims!
