i have to admit the first time i heard aimee mann i totally hated her. don't worry, i now am in love with her work. i have since revisited the magnolia soundtrack, a suggestion from a friend, and it is brilliant.

No time like the present for a rediscovery, reconsideration and reestablishment of Nilsson's brilliance as a composer, singer and interpreter. I get chills sometimes when I hear his voice. Chills.

intriguing... so would a song have to contain similar artist/sounds or lyrics that are some what the same? because obviously, the 3 dog night cover would be the next logical choice, but i wouldnt want to be that predictable. after hearing "won" i instantly thought of living legends track "rabbit hole" because not only is it a hip hop track, but they sample from jefferson airplane's "white rabbit" where they say "ONE pill makes you larger, and ONE pill make you small." idk, it might be a long shot!

then again, there the cowsill's "the rain, the park, and other things" which sounds fairly similar and they were also pretty huge in the sixties.

Hey, it's okay, the rules aren't that specific. I actually thought of this one too, and think it works nicely. The point is to take it to some other place through some twisted path of thought. I see it as a the final post being a non-sequiter. Like you could see the final being something like, i don't know, Sunshine Superman, and then everything in between some how led us to that. I'm still trying to figure out some rules - kinda like the 6 degrees game, but I just like what each song leads people to think. Thanks for your post!

I'm going back to the Nilson/Aimee Mann cover. Beautiful song, have always loved Mann's version, and was never familiar with the original.

Here's Bill Frisell's version of Neil Young's "One of these Days", I think there's a relationship in more than just the "One" in the title, i could analyze it but i'd rather not. Plus it's a cover, like Mann's.

All I can come think of right now is "The Flying Saucer Song" on Nilssons Pussycats - The album was produced by Lennon and sticks with that sort of outer space theme. Which I'll have to post later (if I actually have it).

I think I've thought of some rules for this game that may make it a little more concise, but no less fun. I'll post about it and see if we can make something out of this. This has been fun, thanks for indulging me and helping me follow my whims!

High five! Nice way to bring it home! I'm thinking for the game you should find a way to bring "The Wormhole back to the surface, and this works nicely. Now to figure out how to bring the country fork back...
